Guns? For Teachers?

PHOENIX - All options should be considered to prevent rampages like the Minnesota school shooting that took 10 lives — including making guns available to teachers, a top National Rifle Association leader said Friday.

“I’m not saying that that means every teacher should have a gun or not, but what I am saying is we need to look at all the options at what will truly protect the students,” the NRA’s first vice president, Sandra S. Froman, told The Associated Press.

Gun-control restrictions would not have prevented Jeff Weise, 16, from killing nine people and himself Monday at Red Lake High School near Bemidji, Minn., said Froman, an attorney expected next month to be elected president of the NRA, which claims 4 million members.

The presence of an unarmed guard at the school failed to stop the siege, she noted.

“No gun law, no policy that you could implement now or that was already implemented, I think, could possibly prevent someone so intent on destruction,” she said. “I think everything’s on the table as far as looking at what we need to do to make our schools safe for our students.”

I don't think it's a good idea for Teachers have a gun in the school building, Alot of reasons why I don't agree, because It isn't safe, and it will make the problems even worst. I think the teachers should keep their eyes open around all students behavior, be aware of what they are doing, Same goes for the Parent too.

Well, it'll make the students think twice before messing with the teacher. Though, I would say it's a terrible idea. I meant, what if the teacher get angry enough to shoot one of the students out of stupidity?

No Guns for teachers,,Doesnt anyone learn what happened in a courtroom 3 weeks ago? What makes you think theres not at least 3 students are bad preditors? They can grab the gun from a teacher kill her and kill anyone in that classroom and then it will be on the news and then lawsuits would be filed.I say everyone goes though a seach like bag check and go though a medal detector before you enter the school.

I agree with Cheri, but this latest shooting only proves that school security needs to be improved. I never thought that I'd see the day where schools would need to have armed guards or police on campus. During my HS days, I heard rumors about sex or 'smoking' on campus. That was it.

Yeah, I don't agree that teachers should have guns at all in school, anything can happen really....

and keeping an eye on the signs of trouble children, maybe try to help those trouble children before they go too far...Parents should do the same likewise....It takes a village to raise a child

But what happens when a student brings a gun into school...Who is to stop them? You have one armed person in a building with hundreds of unarmed people with nowhere to run....Finding victims isn't that difficult of a task. If a principle or guards had weapons, there would actually be a chance to stop these shootings before the death toll rises. If a teacher had been armed at Columbine, do you think there would have been a chance to stop the carnage earlier in their rampage?

Taylor Like I suggested,, Bags Searched and scaned though an x ray machine. Then The student goes though a medal detector.Just like they do at airports That goes for everyone teachers and vistors too.

I don't think Columbine schools would get any better if the Teachers has guns, It showing students that you can allow to own a gun if you think your life is at stake. More people and students would buy a gun for themselves, pretty soon the whole world is gotta buy guns. People with guns is not gotta make anything better it's going to get worse. Chances of stopping school shooting, Is opening your eyes and look for behaviors you see that doesn't fit, get those behaviors help before it's too late, and that can saves lives than taking lives. :P

One of these days, I wouldn't be surprised if, the fingerprints/biometric I.D. will require for all students/teachers/supervisors/superintendentsto in all schools.

If, that happens, then, it is called "control". I hope it don't create a major civil war in the near future.

True. When I went to high school, we didn't even have unarmed guards or "public safety officers"--nothing. Also, we had a gun shooting club for students at the school. We never had a shooting or stabbing at the school. There might have been fist fights but I never heard about one, nor did I see one.

Then its the guards fault for not firing their guns. Look what happend in LA airport 2 years ago on 4th of july holiday. An arab terrorist started shooting at EL Airlines ticket counter EL airlines is israel airlines in case you dont know. US military return fire and killed the arab. See sometimes whats comming at you,And you gotta be ready and kill no matter what!
