Cops Stop Car Bomb From Exploding in Times Square

What action did NYC take to prevent THAT car bomb from exploding?

So if the bomb had not malfunctioned, it would have blow up. There is nothing the police did to prevent that from happening.

I'm not slighting the police. They did everything right in their investigation and clearing of the streets. However, it wasn't anything that they did that prevented the car from blowing up. The car full of explosives was not stopped from entering the area and parking. The police did not prevent the bomb from detonating.

it's all about preventive measure. it's the reason why there has been no successful car/truck bomb in NYC since 1993. no successful terrorist attack since 2001. and why this terrorist was apprehended very quickly.

Oh yup, I noticed that too.

Thanks to G.W. Bush to tighten the anti-terrorist law.

Prevention didn't happen in this case. The car was not prevented from parking in Times Square, or from the bomb being detonated. There was no prevention in this case.

The response by the NYPD was fine. But it was not prevention.

Right, Reba. Hence what this cop said,

Nothing preventative. Just dumb, pure luck that they came across that man and car. Note the title of the news article:
Times Square car bomb scare: Disaster averted thanks to alert New Yorkers - and some luck

koko - You might want to take "NY Daily News" with a very tiny grain of salt. NY Daily News is quite notorious for erroneous news and/or writing article with poor wording. They wrote an article about me and it was half-wrong. NY Daily News reporters tend to write article based on selective quotes and then frame around it with their wording. They get paid by number of words.

You were wrong about "2 cops stumbling onto it" by chance because you got that from NY Daily News. See?

Again - have you been to Times Square lately? I know you cannot park wherever you wish in Times Square. or United Nations area. or FBI Headquarter. or any of those high-value targets. That's why we have an increased number of parking officers.

with intensive collaborative effort, technology, trainings, and laws to implement an effective preventive and response protocol - the terrorists were prevented from building powerful bombs with materials around. the terrorists were prevented from having advanced knowledge in building powerful bombs.

and... despite of all the effort - some slips thru the radar but they were quickly apprehended and their plots foiled.

I have already posted an article while back that since 9/11... the terrorist organization's capability has been significantly reduced. It is very difficult for them to send any well-trained terrorist anywhere. The more training a terrorist receives, the brighter he will appear on government's radar.

Proof? ALL terrorist plots have failed as listed in koko's post (btw - Fort Hood shooter is not a terrorist)

I find it funny that you're professing to know more than me especially when I have been here for over 25 years. I have personally seen thru many changes that NYC went thru. It went from mafia-controlled, whore-infected, drug-infected area into Times Square. You might want to come by and see that a lot has changed since the last time you were here. :cool2:

I hosted AD Party right here in the heart of NYC and they have seen the difference.

Same here I saw the difference, not one single bad thing is found in times square at all. And I noticed plenty of cops all over the city when I was there four months ago.

wow 4 months ago? already? It feels like 2 months. damn the time surely flew fast!

Despite that the cop admitted that they were lucky to have stumbled across a would be bomber and his car, and failed to get the detonation going. Pure dumb luck. Cops happened to be there at the right time and right place. This was a bumbling job, a D student from the school of Jihadi. Had it been carefully planned and with the right equipment and use of materials things could've turned out disastorously. I'm sure they are learning from this, testing the defenses and so on. It won't be the last I'm afraid. But let's hope it'll never, ever happen again this same scenario. Like the cop said, anybody can drive a car in NYC, park it, and walk away from it. And that's what they have to deal with it. So far, there had been 4 attempts under Obama administration, with one successful one....all with Islamic ties. And that's all within 15 months, and we're not even halfway through with this administration.

the cop did not stumble onto it. it was reported and the cop went to investigate it.

Like the cop said, anybody can drive a car in NYC, park it, and walk away from it.
Like I said - you can't park anywhere in Times Square and walk away from it. this is what happened - reported and caught. The quote was taken out of context and you took it out context as well. Again - NY Daily News.... notoriously erroneous and misleading.

I'll take the word of a NYC cop who has been on the beat than some guy looking out the window every day.

One of the cops said, "We got lucky this time. That's all I'll say. Sometimes we get lucky."

The cop, who didn't want his name in the paper, nodded in the direction of 45th St., where all the action was the night before. He said, "That's it, that's all it takes. One car. It's New York, people can park anywhere. Guy gets out of a parked car, walks away, leaves a bomb behind. That's what we're up against, every single day."

"We got lucky this time."

How sobering is that? Quite. He acknowledged the difficulty. The bomber was succesful in getting to the point of parking his car with his bomb contraption but failed to detonate it. Just like the crotch bomber's own bomb failed to detonate even though he successfully penetrated security and get the bomb on board an airplane in December last year. Same idea. Sometimes people just get lucky. The question is, how long can this last? I hope forever.

Isn't that exactly what happened? The bomber was NOT stopped from walking away from his car at Times Square.

which is why the bomber was caught in NYC :)

Right, Reba. Of all places, in Times Square. Just like what I've been trying to say, pure, dumb luck that a couple of cops caught the guy in the act.

actually - I work in NYC. and I'm here in NYC. everyday. for years.

"We got lucky this time."

eh you whining? we say - "We got lucky this time" for every averted disaster. I'm sure that in your line of career as forest fire fighter.... you must have said "we got luck this time" when the fire situation turns into your favor.

don't worry. I'll man the front out here while you uh... I dunno - tend to some plants's well-being and water level over there or something.

Actually, they didn't catch him in the act. He was long gone from the scene when he was caught. He was on the run when he was caught.

After the fact. I'm glad he was caught but that's not prevention.

yes ma'am - I am indeed glad he was caught but you're being shortsighted on prevention part. We already have dozens of reports on terrorist wanting to blow up Holland Tunnel, synagogues, Amtrak, Metro (subway), and more. Nothing new. Nothing happened.

Point is - the reason why nothing happened is because of our intensified actions we have taken to make sure nothing happens - hence a prevention on many levels.

this is just a small picture of the entire "prevention" plan - Al Qaeda Crippled as Money Is Cut Off - DailyFinance
