My cousin was killed by her ex husband ... by a shotgun, bought in a store.

My other cousin was maimed by a so-called "family friend"... bye a hunting rifle, bought in a store.

I was shot by an ex boyfriend...by a handgun, bought at a show.
I am very sorry that those awful things happened to you and your family. I am also sorry to say that banning all guns for all good citizens will not prevent crime.

You dont have to obtain a gun in a store or a show...you can get it off the street. Illegally, but still obtainable.
Yes, that is the problem. Banning guns won't stop criminals from buying and stealing guns. Criminals don't obey the law. That is why the law-abiding citizens should be allowed to buy guns to protect themselves from the criminals.

You may say, guns dont kill people, people kill people...but guns helps people kill people.
So do knives, cars, and fists.

That was the ban on "assault weapons". That was only for certain kinds of weapons and accessories.

(CNSNews.com) - Gun control advocates are demanding that President Bush extend the ban on certain "military-style assault weapons" before the law expires on Monday.

But Second Amendment groups say the so-called "ban" was pointless from the beginning, because it simply affected cosmetic features -- the way semi-automatic guns look, not the way they operate.

"On Monday, September 13th, at midnight, the national ban on military-style assault weapons will expire, allowing these murderous weapons back on our streets," the liberal MoveOn.org said on its website.

"Congress is feeling the heat and is prepared to renew the ban, if the president will only ask -- but President Bush is letting the ban expire on behalf of the gun lobby. We've got to take action," MoveOn.org's message says.

MoveOn.org says President Bush is letting the Clinton-era gun ban expire "for the sake of an endorsement from the National Rifle Association."

MoveOn.org is urging readers to sign its emergency petition to President Bush and Congress, which will be delivered on Friday. MoveOn.org is actively campaigning for President Bush's defeat.

Buying frenzy?

The Associated Press reported this week that gun makers are ready to start selling "military-style firearms" as soon as the gun ban expires.

The AP report quoted a consumer advocate as saying that the gun industry is "champing at the bit" for the ban to expire so it can sell what one gun maker calls "Post-Post-Ban Rifles."

A gun control advocate quoted by the Washington Post predicted there would be an "incredible buying frenzy" when the 1994 law expires.

Full-page newspaper ads run by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence ask, "Why does President Bush want to put cop-killing guns back on the street?"

If the 1994 law does expire, MoveOn.org warns, "On Tuesday the 14th of September, an 18-year-old will once again be able to buy an AK-47 assault rifle in most states."

You are right. We do not need people "running around crazy" with guns. People who own guns should learn and obey the laws, learn safe procedures, keep their firearms secure, and practice firing safely. "Crazy" people should not own firearms.

Humm...let me belabor the point a bit...although we are totally going off topic.

I am a gun owner, as has everyone in my mother's family...and many on my father's family...

We have always practiced gun safety, gone to classes, passed tests, and all that jazz....

However...to say "crazy" people should not own guns...what a hoot.

If that's true, I shouldnt be a gun owner. I dont like guns myself, but I do have them...*sigh*...handed down in the family for generations. I have a Remington 30 gauge shotgun that was the pride and joy of my great-grandfather...and other hunting rifles. I belong to the gun lobby - NRA - and have been warned many times for my outspoken beliefs on stricter gun control laws. I will continue to do it though, because I feel they are MUCH needed.

"Crazy" people? I'm proud to be one of the unwashed majority...smiles.

True. The ban covered such things as flash suppressor, magazine capacity, and collapsable stocks.

A gun control advocate quoted by the Washington Post predicted there would be an "incredible buying frenzy" when the 1994 law expires.
The ban has been over for more than a month, and no "frenzy" has happened.

MoveOn.org warns, "On Tuesday the 14th of September, an 18-year-old will once again be able to buy an AK-47 assault rifle in most states."
If an 18-year-old can handle an M-16 in the Army, I guess an 18-year-old (with a background check) can handle an AK-47.

When I attended public high school in Connecticut, we had a girls' rifle team at the school. No one ever "went crazy" or shot another student. It was just another activity, like chess club or drama club.

I know but sane law-abiding people do not "run around crazy with guns"; they use them responsibly.

They do? How do you know that? Don't you remember the school shootings? a good town, with good kids, a good church-going town…an All-American town. things like this just don't happen. Well bullshit on that. People and Kids can snapped, You never know who is a "law-abiding people". You never know you in a wrong place at the wrong time and you get shoot, just because you were there, Kids go to school to learn, one day someone comes in and start shooting that scares everyone around you. It can stop if we make a differences. I for one hate guns and I think Guns should be banned, it'll make the nation safer where everyone can go places without being in fear, kids can go to school without being in fear too. :) Don't slam me because I have the right to have an opionion.

Guns don't kill people... people do. We take away the guns and they will use something else. There's bats, knives, chainsaws, poison, etc... and those are pretty gruesome. I'd rather a person be shot than sliced up with an axe!

I remember the school shootings. The town and school were good but the shooters were not good. They were very troubled individuals. The killers at Columbine carefully planned their attack. They didn't suddenly "snap". There were many warning signs that their parents didn't notice.

You never know you in a wrong place at the wrong time and you get shoot, just because you were there
That can be true about any kind of event, not just a shooting. If someone does begin shooting at me, I would prefer to have a weapon for protection for shooting back.

Guns should be banned, it'll make the nation safer where everyone can go places without being in fear, kids can go to school without being in fear too.
If that could be true, it might be nice, but if you check the statistics in places that have banned private gun ownership, you will find that violent crime does not go down. The nation will not be safer until the criminals are gone.

Don't slam me because I have the right to have an opionion.
I am not slamming you. You can make your opinion and I can make mine. If you don't want guns in your life, that is your choice, and it is fine with me. All I ask is that you don't prohibit my choice.
