you don't think i have heard that a thousand times in person? I have had Deaf people hug my husband and myself and cry and say what wonderful parents we are and what a delight my child is. It happened on july 4th when we ran into two different Deaf families at the festivites.
 
Dosent who you grow up, how you are raised help determine your identity?

Like, a deaf child raised only oral, with CI, speech, never signs, etc etc...would probley grow to identify him/herself as "hearing".

Where as a child who is raised with some Deaf culture (to whatever degree) would have a better understanding in being Deaf

I went to a Deaf institute, my mom was an interpreter, everyone in my family signed, i had deaf people sleep over at my house, i slept over at theirs, etc etc etc... Even had a Deaf girlfriend in high school.

Had a Deaf daughter, with a Deaf girlfriend at the time, dated CAPTIAL Deaf girlfriends afterwards....

Before I had my daughter, I joined a Deaf softball team, went across the nation playing tournaments with other Deaf teams. This still continues to this day.

You can't decide for the child their identity they choose.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and pull a GrendelQ here.

Hell, you can't even determine your child's sexual preferences at 5. You really can't go out and say ... "my kid's straight because s/he is flirting members of the opposite sex at her age." Then all of a sudden at 13 your kid goes out and tell you "Hey, I am not straight."

You have a good point. I went to gallaudet that school opened my eyes. I learned so much from that school to socialize with other Deaf people. I d say that I am Deaf after age 26. So totally.

Deaf people are Deaf people. If you were so loved by the Deaf community, it would be happening here, too. Nope, I call that a downright lie. Even the Deaf that post to your blog tell you you are full of audist crap.

i know you aren't stupid, so why do you so often pretend to be? You know that i am raising my child bilingually, but doing it in a different way than grendel. Why does that matter? She has and uses ASL, and has always been a part of the Deaf community. Don't like me? Fine. But stop pretending that i am not doing the right things for my kid.

Yes, which is exactly why so many deaf of hearing stuggle with this.

never once in my life i have seen a Deaf family cry over how other parents are doing with their deaf kids.

:bsflag: Your child is in an oral school. No doubt your home is the same. You would not put your child in an oral school if you were raising her bilingually. You relied on sign language until you got your precious CIs and then went oral just like so many other hearing parents do. You just refuse to be honest about it. And you know, in some part of your confused brain, you know that you are wrong, or you wouldn't still be on a Deaf website trying to convince people you are something you aren't.

Well, I've never id myself as hearing even though I didn't know sign since 4th grade. I didn't know about the Deaf world then so I wasn't Deaf.

you are absolutely wrong. Just because this one site has a few angry, loud, posters does NOT mean it represents the real life Deaf community. In fact, you are the single most vicious person and you are HEARING...a fact you like to forget
