Charity Raffle?

How many of you would like to have a charity raffle on AllDeaf?

The way it'd work is, we'd pick one charity group to support, then I collect prizes from well-known "deaf" companies. In order to win a prize, you'd need to buy a ticket (probably $1). The more tickets you buy, the higher your chance of winning that prize. 100% of the proceeds will go to the charity group.

So, what do you guys think?

I always hope for great things for almost nothing and willingly gamble on Ebay.

OK question is: For 'ticket' how would that work?
 
It would depend on the prize. I would still buy a few tickets. But if the prize is appealing, I would buy more tickets. ;)

It would be a good idea to find a sponsor who is willing to donate something as a prize. :)
 
Sounds like fun to me! What about shipping/handling costs for getting the prizes after we've "won" them? Or are we talking about online prizes of some kind?
 
I think this is a GREAT idea. Just one question...how would you go about selecting a charity?

I read Alex's thread again and I guess you're right. But I like the idea of the winner picking his/her choice of charity.

Yeah, that would be an added bonus and incentive to purchase tickets.
 
I will be glad to buy some raffle tickets but what is the prize? if larger or something badass then sure
 
Oh nice, so we pay the tickets with charity that we choose on our side and if we win, the charity we pick gets the winnings?


Is this like a tax write off for a company or something? I heard about this in a business meeting.
 
Alex, you would have to head all aspects of this raffle as everyone will be so divided on settling on any decision. If your word is law, it will shut alot of indecisive people up! LOL

That's a good idea. Maybe something towards prevention of child abuse or domestic abuse? Anyone else have any ideas?

Maybe breast cancer? My mother had breast cancer. Ideas?
