Catholic Church Closing 22 Schools in Brooklyn and Queens

It's so sad to see that many Catholic schools are closing in the NYC area.

Times has changed a lot. Even though I never attended a Catholic school myself, but I have heard many good things about the education there. When I was a kid at TSD, the midget basketball teams would often play teams from Catholic schools along with private schools of different religious demonations.

I would even consider sending my daughter to a Catholic school when she hits 4 or 5 years old down the road. There are a few Catholic schools scattered all over East Tennessee.

and ravensteve, your really stupid! The kids, who are currently enrolled at these Catholic schools that are being closed, are the ones being hurt because they miss out on a very good educational opportunity! It is not a punishment from God!

Better education for whom? Poor kids who cant afford to attend private school does not have same privalage as those kids who attended private school. Sound not right to me.

you forget there are scholarships that enabled poor kids to attend these Catholic schools?

Scholarships aint just for colleges.

Jazzy, there are scholarships.

Growing up my mom was a single working mom and she struggled to put all of us (4 siblings) through catholic schools on her measly income. The administration understood her dilemma and gave her a lot of breaks in tuition. Not all rich kids attend catholic schools or other religious schools, so to speak.

Now I am in my mother's shoes and I made it clear to my ex that I cannot afford tuition for my two girls so he is paying all for it himself. I am fortunate in this case.

Why feel bad and sad for those kids? They can go to public schools.
Some parents want better educational opportunities for their children in schools that promote good discipline, and spiritual training that doesn't conflict with their own beliefs.

Would you feel better about it if tuition tax credits made it possible for more lower-income families to afford private education?

Gee, Steve—we didn’t uh, like, uh, hit a RAW NERVE here by any chance, did we? Did you and Father Riley play a few games of Twister in the rectory basement? I mean, shit like that's bound to happen when you make a kid wear a matching tie and slacks everyday.

You know what goes on in here?

Oh father,,Deeper!!,, Deeper!!,, Deeper!!!,,On Yeah!!!

Okay, there is another thing that bother me about private schools here. What about those kids who are not bright, not A's and B's students. If the kids are getting D or F, they kicked them out of school. I know couple kids who already got kicked out of private because they were not "great students". It is alike they weeding bad students and keep good students.

Reason I ask here cuz my son has mild learning disability and he was 3 years behind with his peers since kindergarten till last year of high school. He made it because he worked hard and was C average student. If he attended private school, they would have kicked him out.

I read newspaper here in this area and find private schools did very well than public schools then I realized the private schools accept only well behave kids who are bright.

Unless u tell me I am being ingornant on this part.
