So....Cain hired a high powered defamation attorney BEFORE Bialik even made her statement:

Atlanta attorney Lin Wood told Reuters Thursday he was not hired to scare, intimidate or threaten anyone from making statements, but to monitor the accusations against Cain and respond accordingly.

Wood, a top libel and defamation lawyer, was hired on Monday morning when it became clear that Sharon Bialek was about to become the first of four women alleging inappropriate behavior by Cain to go public with her accusations.

Do I smell fear?

Honestly, why would he not do this? There has been no questioning of his intelligence or common sense. If this were me, I would do the same if I could afford it.

I am surprised all candidates don't have one on retainer the minute they throw their hat into the ring.

*shrug* We have no way of determining who is the victim at this point. In fact if it turns out the allegations are false and this was nothing more than a smear campaign, it would be you that is attempting to discredit the victim. :cool2:

Well, let's see...we have 5 women claiming to have been victimized by Cain.

Then we have Cain saying first that Rick Perry is responsible for attacking him, then Romney, then the Democratic Machine, then 5 women who have nothing better to do with their time than sit around and think about ways to get Herman Cain.

You do the math.

The fact that he did it BEFORE Bialek ever went public is the interesting part.

I don't see any other candidates hiring defamation lawyers.

Announce your candidacy. You'll be able to pay the attorney from campaign funds. Maybe you can even find a couple "brothers from another mother" like the Kochs to pay him for you.

And yet, Cain is the only one to have hired an attorney that practices in the field of defamation.:hmm:

Your math is speculation. I would rather wait for PROOF before condemning a man for such a horrible thing. That's just me.

But it had been announced that a woman might be going public. Being prepared seems prudent.

Do you know all the lawyers that are on all the staffs of all the candidates and all their specialties? Is there a list somewhere?

Proactive. Very wise move. Should he hire a tax attorney to discredit false allegations. (I'm not claiming they are false or true....speaking from his perspective here)

I did say "alleged" in my post. I am also waiting for this to shake out before making a decision on his guilt or innocence. I am not going to praise his honesty any more than I would condemn his misconduct, because neither has been proven, but both are being questioned by various sources. Did he or didn't he? Calling 5 women all liars instead of one man seems a bit of a stretch, but I am trying.

I'm guessing the next step up against Cain would be allegations of a sexual affair.

You are late to the dance here, so I will bring you up to date. We have done the Clinton comparisons. Want to throw JFK into the mix? Those naughty Democrats. Was Sandusky a Democrat?

Anyhow, try to focus on Cain. Seems you have singled me out here, so I will state my stance for you:
  • I believe he is innocent until proven guilty
  • I believe there is something going on there, as yet unproven
  • I would prefer a more experienced candidate for President from the GOP
  • I do not like Obama, but would choose him over Cain, based solely on experience in government
  • I would not leave the house if it came between Cain and Obama. I would watch Jeopardy

I'm just seeing parallels between Clinton and Cain when it came to women making allegations. Note the cue when I said: "...next step up against Cain would be allegations of a sexual affair."

You vote for "O". Fine. He's a proven, walking disaster, IMHO.

The same mainstream media whose response to proven charges against Bill Clinton was “Let’s move on” is not about to move on from unproven charges against Herman Cain.

What role does race play in all this?

It is probably not racism, as such, that motivates these attacks on Herman Cain. The motivation is far more likely to be politics, but politics makes a prominent black conservative such as Clarence Thomas or Herman Cain far more dangerous to the Democrats than an equally prominent white conservative.

The 90 percent black vote for Democrats is like money in the bank on Election Day. A prominent black conservative who offers an alternative view of the world is a serious danger politically, because if that alternative view has the net effect of reducing the black vote for Democrats just to 75 percent, the Democrats are in big trouble at election time.

In this political context, merely defeating a black conservative at the polls or at confirmation hearings is not enough. He must be destroyed as an influence in the future — and character assassination is the most obvious way to do it.
