This is a public forum. If we are going to get people interested in joining, then it would be a good idea to let them read. If they want to get nosey, who cares. Let them have their pointless fun getting themselves nowhere with the pointless snapshots of our forum. Let's just think of it this way... we said it first. If they want to show others, let that be our advertisement. I rather others see something I'm proud off than to keep it hidden from everyone else.

I believe we should tighten our security for AD to avoid "spies" invading ppl's privacy and then transfer them to another site and make fun of other people's privacy about things, and shit like that...it's really none of their business to know anything about them unless they are really AD members, you know? so, like I said, we should tighten our security to avoid invading and hacking and shit like that.

thats fine...I actually think that maybe when the new people come in, they can only look at a few forums, as the general discussions, current effects, and the entertainment forums as free forums for the visitors, and the rest should be privacy for AD-regestired members only.VamPyroX said:

i voted no.
1) allowing lurkers to view will help them to make better decision to join. they would know there are many topics they'd like to talk about or in need of advices. thats why AD is having estimated more than 3-5 members registered per day (i guessed)
2) google and all other search engines bots HELPED big time to spread out all over, this is also why alot of people registered daily. especially from all over the world right now.
which would you like better, more topics to talk about and making new friends than having a few topics and members around in AD?

If I wanted AllDeaf to be a completely private forum, I would've made it so a long time ago.
Last month when I was in SF with my girlfriend, we met this hearing law student who was telling us that he tried searching for information about hearing/deaf relationship and found AllDeaf. He said he learned something from the experiences posted by our members here, and with that knowledge he knew his way around this deaf girl he started dating for the first time.
If AllDeaf was a closed forum, this law student or others would've never found this site. And how did he find out about AllDeaf? Simply by searching through search engines, and the only way to get our site spidered and listed is by making it public, not private.
In addition, I have to say I agree with those of you who think a closed forum restricts potential members. I know for a fact that if I visited an entirely closed forum, and could not see what it's about, the chances are I will not waste my time and bother registering.
About these lurkers that come in here from their shithole they call a forum only to copy and make fun of other members' posts/pictures, they seriously need to get a life. You know who you are.

i agree keeping it public BUT some poeple have mentioned locking out the penisiurim and the photo threads, if we have kids posting here ( for example) and some peophille took that off the site used it for thier own pleasure it wouldn't be right. I belive in security of the children's sake. rest can be open for ALL to see i have no plm with that just two should be shut out from non registared members. ( oh yah and pets pics too)

I voted yes for a couple of reasons -- for those underaged kids, in this forum, we have adult sections...would be safer to have it password protected and the sorts...that way the owner/adminstrators will be protected and not be blamed for any cases should children be caught viewing naked people in pictures and etc. Dirty jokes and stuff like that.
But in general, I agree that the forum should stay public. It's only the adult-rating folders that should have restrictions put on them.
