I have a numb area on the right side of my head just above where the magnet sits and it has been 3 years since I was implanted.

I can't feel it at all. The top of the ear where Sunglasses/processor lies is very senstive and sore at the moment but is improving. The area of where implant lies to the back of my ear is completely numb, the ear lobe is okay.

Don't worry too much about it, it'll be fine. like you said, everyone is different. :)

If truth be told, the numbness I have on the right side of my head isn't a big deal. I don't even notice it unless I touch that particular area.

No it's not a big deal really. However if i feel a particular area it tingles... drives me bonkers when i brush my hair!

Yeah, I will be strong lady! I can be brave with CI to show my deaf friends. :giggle: They can't get me down! I have right to correct on them. I can do my best!

You have a fun on your travel!

Okay. I will try. I thought I would wear a contact lenses. I might don't feel like to wear it. I didn't know about frame's arm need to be screw off. It's good idea. I will ask my husband to do it for me.

I guess you're lucky to be outpatient.

Pinky - you can wear glasses! Just take one arm off with screw. Put the screw on a tape and tape it on your arm. No problem. :)

I was outpatient for both of my surgeries, never had to stay overnight. One of my friends with CI stayed overnight because she asked for it and because she says she gets a little dizzy/balance issues.

The first surgery I was out of the hospital after 2 hours for recovery. The nurses had to keep me there because my O2 levels were a little lower than they wanted, and I had a bit of a rough recovery...this is due to the anesthesia induction drug that they used (propofol...white stuff).

The second surgery, I was out of there within 30 minutes. This time I had the nausea patch beforehand, smaller endotracheal tube (the first surgery, my throat was SORE for weeks), and I had gas induction instead of propofol. I was bouncing off the walls after the second surgery because I felt SO good. The bandage was on just snug, no throat aches, and no nausea.

So...people react differently for surgeries.

That's what I thought since Charlotte said the same thing happened to her.

Ditto here too. Had mine last week and just recovered from the balance problems now. Thought I'd be a day patient as I was there at 7.30am, got called up at 10am only to find out that they had the wrong person so came back down to wait for another recall to surgery - waited till 11.10am then I was recalled - the staff up there were ever so apologetic and had a little argument with the same nurse who brought me to surgery. Before I knew it I was gone in a fit of laughter! came round at 4.30pm - too groggy to go home the same day so kept me overnight. Found that my balance was shot and had to ask the nurses repeatedly through the night for assistance to walk from one end of the ward to the other end of the ward to the toilets! You should see the line I walked unaided - so much like a drunk - weaving here and there. Had my antibiotics combo late at night - 11pm and again at 7am. Became more lucid at 7am and had some breakfast. They sent me to x-ray before discharging me. They kept me waiting in x-ray after the x-ray was done cos the porter was none where to be found. The radiographer constantly bleeped the porter to turn up - turned up 45 mins later! gave the porter a piece of my mind and remonstrated that he should not drag me than push me on the porter chair across the place! (I come from a medical background so know what should happen in hospital, poor dad - he was furious, he's a MD for heavens sake!)
