While I was typing a post response for another thread, I heard my door bell ring. I went downstairs, and saw this sign in my front yard. Oh, no! This is the third time it's happened, and I feel guilty about it. I didn't even know the subdivision was still doing this (I thought they quit giving this a couple years ago). It's very embarrassing, and lots of pressure. Now I feel obligated to work harder on my yard so people won't say, "Huh? Why did THEY get the sign?"

If anything, I would prefer my elderly neighbors would win the honor. I've been working hard on improving their front yard for them, and I think they should get the "most improved" honor. They would be so tickled. :)

I can't move the sign to their house because it's chained and padlocked to the tree by the subdivision representative.

Honestly, I don't do my yard as a "competition." I just fix it the way that pleases me. Personally, I think many of our neighbors have much nicer yards. Maybe the "judges" just felt sorry for me because they saw me outside sweating and hauling my garden tools, heh, heh. (Many people hire professional landscape crews; I do everything myself.)

Well, I guess it beats the time some kids TP'ed our front yard. :P

Ha ha... I understand what you mean about landscaping purely for your own entertainment. I do that myself, and then I hear from my bf that the neighbour said something and that they have to do something to their garden. I think it is pretty silly for neighbours to be competitive. Don't you think it saps this neighbourly feeling in a small way?

CONGRATULATIONS!! Reba!
I know you are so proud of your yard!
Wish i had your green thumb!

:ty:

I appreciate all the sweet comments.

OH wow congrats, Reba.. ya should be proud.. but as ya have explained, ya thought yuor other neighbors deserved that honor more than ya do, that show ya care and more...

Reba,
Thanks for sharing the pic of your front yard, you have a very nice house. The judges made no mistake after all, you been working hard yourself without outside help hiring gardners maybe the judges saw that in you. Congrats!!

Congratulations!

I had a neighbor who put so much money and work in their yard that they won awards all the time. Seriously, they put so much shit in their yard that it was enough to make me vomit.

Looking at my thumbs no they are not green but your does. Wow good going and you should be proud cuz you work hard for it.

Congrats, your front yard looks so beautiful.
