There's few members like Sxyporkie that said deaf people can't be registered nurses then I don't believe what their said and make me feel upset about it.

That's not true. My wife's mother used to work at a hospital with a Dr. who was deaf. The Dr., she did excellent & was completly deaf I think she said. I don't remember..But, either way its true deaf people can be a CNA, RN, Dr., etc.

We have a member here on this very message board who is deaf as a rock and is a licensed respiratory therapist. She worked in the ER of a major metropolitan medical facility for 15 years. Does anybody have a clue who I'm talking about? I know several deaf people who work in the medical professions, including a student at the UCLA School of Medicine who is probably in her first year of internship right now. I myself am trying to scrape up enough money to finish a bachelor’s degree in dietetics and work as an RD in a research hospital. I may not be completely deaf, but my hearing is impaired enough to cause me some occupational stress. Have you ever heard of AMPHL? It certainly wouldn’t exist if there were no deaf people in the medical professions.Where the hell did Porkie get an idea like that?We have a member here on this very message board who is deaf as a rock and is a licensed respiratory therapist. Who are you talking about?![]()
I still don't understand what you're talking about. And Buck just ain't my type.
I do however believe that deaf people can be nurses and even become a doctor if they are motivated to become one and have the passion instilled. There are so many tools that can help a deaf nurse be accessible to begin with. I have met and known some deaf nurses which is great. There is a deaf guy who I used to date with - He is an EMT and he says he has entercountered alot of the issues which makes him works twice than the other fellow EMTs does. He also has said that there were questions asked like "How can you hear the stetscope?", "How can you hear the breathings?", so and on. You get the picture.
I am also aware that there are alot of skepticals about wondering how the deaf nurse can deal with the daily basis trying to work with a patient that has no knowledge of how to deal with a deaf person but, that's part of the challenge and there are ways to make it work by using different resources or tools to break down the communication barrier.
I am hoh and I used to be CNA *certified nurse aide* so what wrong with that. I could go for RN. But I didnt go for it cuz it wasnt up in my alley.
