Bill: No snacks for food stamp users

Interesting that Jason lists clean water as one of the basic needs. One of the charities that I support is Water Missions International.

Water Missions

(International does sometimes include the USA, such as after Hurricane Katrina.)

We also donate to, and buy from the Habitat ReStores of Habitat for Humanity, that Jason mentions.

I remember a story about ten years ago on the news. It was about an American young boy donated his money to build a underground water pump system in Africa. He saved many poor Africans... Now, I wonder that they still use it, or did the African government blocks it for money?

I recalled that our government gave millions of dollars to help Africa for many years, but it was never successful. This boy made the difference.

The requirement of photo ID is just stupid and it won't prevent vote fraud.

Birth certificate or non-photo ID are enough proof to vote.
A birth certificate is good for acquiring a photo ID. It's not enough by itself to prove that one is a voter in that precinct. That's why voters have voter registration cards.

If someone has a birth certificate, then that person can get a picture ID card. So what's the problem?

How does a non-photo ID prove who the person is?

There's surprise for you, you got new Super Nintendo today so please share with DeafTim.

In our state, photo ID is required under new law and it is not free at all. We do not have voter ID in our state so driver license or non-driver license are required, that subject to fees.

Manadatory photo ID wont help with vote fraud and frauders are capable to develop perfect ID with photo that allow them to vote. The poll workers are not TSA who use green light to verify that ID is true and they doesn't know if photo ID is fake if they looks too perfect. The photo ID requirement is good for strengthen the vote fraud but throw poor voters out.

You mentioned that people can get free voter ID in your state so DOJ need aim at Alabama, not South Carolina.

Just messing with you but some of your posts are ignorant so you are free to say whatever you want.

Be prepared for some members who start think about your post.

I think you are totally missing the point of what the discussion is about. It isn't about the government checking each item in a lunchbox! It's about a teacher helping kids connect what they are learning in class (good nutrition) with their behaviors (what they put into their own bodies). Kids put pressure on their parents to buy the kind of things they want. They bug their parents for this sweet or that sweet... why can't the teacher teach them to bug their parents for grapes or oranges instead?

This isn't a giant government conspiracy to raid your kitchen!!!! This is about teaching kids to ask for healthy foods instead of asking for things that are high in salt, sugar, fat, etc.

(And no, I'm not sure the sticker is appropriate, but I totally think using the kids lunches to teach a lesson is AWESOME... the teacher could have the kids hold up foods they think are healthy, and the kids can discuss why the foods are or are not healthy. What a great way to teach kids about nutrition!)

If you been listening to the news some states what to put a tax on candy and junks , and what Do you think their reason for this is? The states say they are concerned about kids health. Bull crap! It is all about making more money having tax on candy.

You don't seen to understand that some parents can't afford to buy healthy snack and will buy cheaper snacks for their kids. The teacher is only going to make some kids feel bad when they're being told in front of WHOLE class room that their snack is bad for them!! You DO NOT use other kids to set a good example for the whole class!! Next teachers will be weighting kids in front of the class and telling the whole class how much they weight! I find it very interesting that teacher does not have enough balls to tell the parents to their faces what she think of the lunches their kids get! The teacher is having the kids do her dirty work, she want the kids to go home and tell their parents their food is junk! What a coward! If a teacher had anything to say to me I would want them to say it to my face and not through my child! Maybe if this was done at home ed class and the teacher made healthy snacks with the kids I would be Ok with that but in front of the whole classroom. The teacher should be sending home notes to the parents if she feel their kids ear eating poorly. I bet they the teachers do not have the balls to that!!

In Canada, there's no tax on basic groceries but there's definitely tax on candy and junk food? Why? They're not considered necessities nor as real food.

There is link about what our representative saying about mandatory photo ID in our state, however it will not effective until 2014.
US Rep. Terri Sewell opposes Alabama photo voter ID law | al.com

Unlike your state law, our state doesn't have free ID for voters.

Holding up food items from their own lunches to be critiqued in front of their peers? No, that's not a good idea. In fact, that could be mortifying.

Holding up food items from a basket that the teacher has brought in to demonstrate healthy and unhealthy choices is a better idea. Let the kids make their selections from the basket that the teacher stocked, not one that their parents or themselves did.

I agree 100% with you this could be mortifying for some kids. But a teacher should not bring snacks to the school as a child may food allergies and not able to eat any of the snacks. I use give my daughter very healthy snacks in her lunches and my daughter said some kids would want to trade their junk food snacks for my daughter healthy snack. Yes, my daughter would do it!

The teacher can use pictures or play food. It doesn't have to be real food. :)

The USA did not have the NAFTA and many other Free Trade agreements and more during the second World War. So even if you were to initiate a third World War, it still wouldn't stimulate the economy within the country. Did you know that during the second World War, the government took over many, many factories and converted them to build weapons?

Today, there aren't as many factories as there used to be.

And that's going to put us at a serious disadvantage in war.

Can you get Food stamps in Canada Caroline? Do they add Tax on food stamps? In the Good old U.S.A you cannot tax food stamps is why i want the Obama admin get the DOJ on Floridas new law. Just like the DOJ tells South Carrolina they cant enforce Voter ID law.

I can't be bothered to reply to you.

No, that's not mortifying. If the teacher says "who thinks their snack is healthy?" the children can choose to raise their hands or not. What's mortifying about that? :hmm:

She can collect the sales fliers from local grocery stores and ask the kids to make a poster showing healthy vs unhealthy snacks using those pictures.

No, what's what food banks are for.
