Bill: No snacks for food stamp users

Depends on some people and their situation with health.

I have better tolerate with regular soda like Sprite (not diet) than water and juice.

What do you mean, tolerance? There's not much to tolerate while drinking water.

I have complicated health issues and drinking plenty of waters that caused waters goes in my colon that cause more diarrhea. My colon won't absorb much liquids anymore and I have small amount of urine, despite being drink plenty of water. I prefer liquid that mixed with others like Sprite and Gatorade so urine goes back to normal and keep diarrhea under control.

I can't have diet soda or any beverages that contain artificial sugars anymore or my tummy will goes into intense pain.

We aren't vegetarian, but we did and do make our granola, pizzas, cook everything from scratch, and all that jazz.

My first child thought fried okra was cookies and frozen peas were candy. I let her think that.:D

My youngest two children thought a bowl of oatmeal was a treat, a yummy snack in the middle of the day. I let them think that, too. :D

We buy our oats in fifty pound bags to save money, and now that bag lasts two and sometimes three months. It used to last just one month.

We buy flour, rice , cereals, honey, sugar, everything non perishable in bulk, it's a good idea because it's cheaper and forces you to make things from scratch which is usually healthier.

When I was a kid I remember thinking that fried bread dough was cookies and that frozen rhubarb and shaved carrots were candy. I even developed an orange tinge to my face from eating so many carrots.

Pancakes were a huge treat along with cream of wheat.

I probably eat worse now than I did growing up but my diet is still healthier than many people I know.
Parents should be more like you and my mother when it comes to instilling good eating habits early. The obesity problem we are facing in north america would be greatly reduced and health care costs would go right down the tube.
My mother done it because we were low on money most of the time, I plan on doing the same thing to my kids because it's healthy and smart.

Of course it didn't hurt that all that carrots and veggies were either grown in our garden or like blueberries, which are still my type of candy, straight from the wild.

I have other opinions on what people should be doing with their kids but I tend to rant too long on the subject so I'll stop here by bowing down to an awesome mother.

I'd rather discuss in terms of what parents *could* do for their kids (and themselves) when it comes to eating instead of saying on what they *should* do. Give them the alternatives to decide instead of brow beating them or heap guilt laden words.

Need to go and check on my meat-rich stew with carrots, green peppers, onions, and potatoes being cooked for tonight post-Superbowl game.

So you don't care that people will die?

So How youre gonna get people back to work in a misable economy? No one has ever invented something great to get people back to work. Like the Chevy volt turned out to be a bad prouduct very few are buying them. Now if someone came up an idea like sit ur car out the sunlight for 3 hours it will charge fully and can run for 5 hours of driving before you sit it out the sun 3 more hours to be fully charged. And goes up to 65 MPH. If electric runs out gas kicks in gets only 40 MPG Hwy 30 City. Now that would be a good prouduct and people will buy and you get people back to working in those auto factories again. But right now nobody isnt inventing something great.

The USA did not have the NAFTA and many other Free Trade agreements and more during the second World War. So even if you were to initiate a third World War, it still wouldn't stimulate the economy within the country. Did you know that during the second World War, the government took over many, many factories and converted them to build weapons?

Today, there aren't as many factories as there used to be.

Steve, the unemployment rate has fallen to 8.3%. Almost 250,000 new jobs were created this month. the stock market is rallying very well, in fact, so well that the Dows had its highest close in 4 years.

The price of gold fell this week, another sign of confidence in the American dollar which is linked to the strength of the US economy.

Right now, the US economy is recovering, not declining.

Why don't YOU invent something great?

I can't believe you are seriously okay with tons of people dying, just so you can have a job. Do you realize that children will lose their fathers? Women will lose their husbands? Parents will lose their children? Just so you can have a job?! That's insane.

I Cant even get these ideas to work

I have disagree with that statement! If you ever tasted the drinking water in my city you see what I mean. My sister lives in a town and the drinking water smell so awful and taste like shit! My daugther and I could not believe how horrible the water was when we went to visit my sister.

Well water or sulfur water...perhaps she needs to connect to city water. But sulfur water has a lot of iron in it and I remmy when I lived in the country with sulfur water, I gained weight.....Plus, if you dye ur hair, using the sulfur water turns it a different color. I had to use bottled water.

I saw my daughter and granddaughter today and my daughter was telling me that her daughter's first grade teacher is going to talking to the class about eating healthy and the teacher is going to check out each kids lunch and see who had a healthy snack and who has an unhealthy snack! The kids that have a healthy snack with get a sticker! I think this teacher is waaay out of line and is gone of her God damn business what the kids parents give their kids to eat!
I just hope the teacher has clean hands when she going poking through the kids food. This going to made some kids feel really uncomfortable being singled out for not having a healthy snack . I am more concerns how this will affect some kids that can't afford a snack at all.

That's due to the water pollution. If the city's water is undrinkable, it's the fault of the city for failing to treat them properly. However, if treated properly, you should be able to drink it. Water here is well-treated, but I always filter it before drinking it anyway.

Maybe the point is to teach kids to look at their own food and see what is good and what is not, and to help kids pressure their parents for healthy lunches.

Your daughter should speak to the teacher, and if the teacher won't listen, then to the principal. That is very wrong for the teacher to do.

Teaching about good nutrition is one thing but going into the kids' lunches is another.
