should parents lose custody of fat kids?

I AM implying that people whom are helpless should not do something as stupid as have a child. There is no implication that these "fat" kids have a biological disorder but a possibility. Parents who do have a child with any disorder should seek professional help. And NO professional will allow a child to get obsess under his/her care....
I think what Beowulf meant by "helpless" was that the girl's condition wasn't the result of anything the mother did wrong but in a medical condition that couldn't be resolved.

You can't know for sure why a kid you pass on the street looks fat. Is that round look from overeating or is it from anti-rejection drugs for an organ transplant? Maybe that kid looks obese but a few months ago was morbidly obese and is now on weight loss program and making good progress.

You don't know the story behind each one's situation.

Baloney.

Obesity is simple - it's a result of consuming TOO MUCH energy. While it's true that metabolic rate does vary among individuals, there's a limit to how much they can actually gain. It is IMPOSSIBLE to gain weight if you eat less than the minimum required to sustain life, even those with underactive thyroid disorders in their given average weight/height.

When a child is getting obese and nothing is done about it, it indicates that negligence is happening - even if the child has a disorder that slows the metabolism. After all, wouldn't you WANT the child treated?

Fortunately, the truth is not black and white. Only those who live a very, very limited existence believe that.

You would not know Mr.Truth even if he called you out and hit you upside the head with a2x4

Then you are even more offensive than I originally thought.

And you can refrain from ever addressing anything to do with my right to reproduction. It is none of your concern. Nor is anyone else's right to reproduction.

So you think you can dish out offensive lines but don't have to take your own medicine. You are nothing but a bully.

That is not your decision to make. I personally believe that someone as judgemental and intolerant as you should never even come close to having an influence on a child. But that is not my decision to make, either. I just clean up the mess after people like you have messed them up.

Notice I gave a heartfelt answer to the question ask me? But you are too chicken to do that with the questions asked of you.

Not true everywhere.

The rest of your examples are just as irrelevant, so I'm not even going to address them.

I support classes in nutrition and other life skills but not as mandatory prerequisites to parenthood. What next? A procreation license for couples?

Most families make it thru life without formal parenting classes just fine. For those who need help in specific areas, then such classes might be in order.

I disagree. I believe they should be mandated to learn about sex, home economics, finances, children upraising, and responsibilities of marriage in a secular perspective where religious people can be happy to add their beliefs to the secular education... at home!

A planned parenthood produce healthy and happy children.

I'd like to hit you up side the head with a 2 x 4, but I doubt it would have any effect on your ignorance and your offensiveness at all.

Bring it on. I can take anything you have to dish out, and still put you in your place. Done it before, and will continue to do so.

Yes, I did miss those classes because you were teaching them and I knew better than to waste my time on your bs.

I don't teach parenting classes. I have no patience with people like you. I just clean up the mess that people like you create for their kids.

Heartfelt or not isn't the issue. The fact that you are offensive, intolerant, and ignorant is the issue.

LOL @ this thread. The subject isn't funny, but most of this page is.

Also stunned @ rolling's offensiveness.

My only kid is an Army Ranger and a military doctor (hold the applause Reba) and I would put him up against your juvenile delinquent any day of the week.

Close...but no cigar.

Yes, I'm offensive of those who call me names, try to assassinate my character, or tell lies about me.

Yes, I'm intolerant of those who try to color the truth.

No, I'm not ignorant.......as you have shown by being unable to prove one post of mine is wrong.

Here's a brilliant idea: teach child development to both genders in secondary school. Often, poor parent results from inappropriate expectations for the child's developmental stage.

Anyone who wants to learn can read books by Brazleton or Leach. I'm particularly indebted to Leach for a small block of text entitled "The Wakeful Baby." Brazelton is a favorite because of his reasurring tone.
