A good way to practice using your residual hearing is to ask all speakers to turn away so you cannot read their lips.

It will make you a proficient hearer in no time!
 
Let's fit out deaf kids with the best CIs and tie their hands behind their back and force them to speak. They will grow up and be thankful they were raised this way.

I signed onto AllDeaf during the winter of my discontent and I am worse off today than I was back then!
