DOD Asks: How Would You Feel Showering With Gays?

Everyone is a little bit gay. Only prudes who don't really like sex are 100% straight. Those are the missionary only people.
That's your uninformed opinion.

Is this a waste of tax dollars, or is it a good thing to research?
Anyone that has showered in the military has probably showered with a gay person. They just didn't know for sure.

Housing is assigned by rate/rank, size and composition of family, and availability.

At the time that Hubby and I were eligible for military housing, and a unit became available, we were both enlisted petty officers with one daughter. That made us eligible for a two-bedroom townhouse unit. That's the largest unit we would have ever been eligible for because we had only one child.

So it does have to do with number of people in the family, in part. Definitely seems more important to me than gay or straight.

If someone is filing for divorce and not final and get caught sleeping with someone, they still get in trouble. Now, if it a gay/lesbian couple, it fall under the same thing. They are married and they only allowed to sleep with each other, only.

Even in that case, does the military have any grounds to oppose a child from a previous relationship? Just pointing out that there are ways for same-sex couples to have kids, so the issue of housing a same-sex couple with kids would come up.

To answer the original question about whether gay couples (with no kids) would get the same housing as straight couples with 1 or 2 kids, my guess is they would get the same housing as a straight couple with no kids.

It depends on dependency status of the children. If the military member has full or majority custody, then they can claim the children for determining housing eligibility. If they are only a "weekend" parent, then probably not.

I read this in my local newspaper. It helps to explain a little bit about Navy life "in the showers."

Take this example: When I was in the Navy, I knew a few of the guys that were gay on the ship. It was well know who was and who wasn't. So that didn't bother me as long as they did not cross my boundary.

After leaving the ship and getting station on shore, I was in the shower at the barracks. This is an open shower and they are about 15 shower heads. I had one in a corner since i was the only one in the shower at the time. Well a young man came in and took the shower head right next to me. That’s a no no. You give each other space, unless they are 15 people showering at the same time. This is what makes service personnel uncomfortable. This can cause people to get jumped on. I just turn my shower off and got out.

If you have not been in the military and don't realize the close quarters that we are in then they is no way you can truly understand.

You have to be very careful that you don't step into someone else comfort zone.

As far as war time goes, when that threat alarm goes off, everyone forget about who or why they hate someone. Yes, even the ones who claim to be KKK’s, Gansters and Rednecks pull together.

After these threats are over, we go back to disliking or hating our fellow crew member. Thats the life of a Service member.

Yes, it's probably a "waste of tax dollars"....seems "somebody" (DOD)...just wants to know "how they FEEL about it....as if they have a "choice" or something (??)....

In a way, DADT was an intelligent thing to do during the "hate the gays" time because it allowed for maximum number of soldiers for the minimum discomfort. But it has a nice side effect: It allows people to become friends with gay people without their knowing, only to find out later. It usually changes their mind or outlook on homosexuality. DADT is meant to be only temporary, it should be eliminated when most people are okay with the homosexuality issue.

That is exactly what the surveys are for... are most soldiers okay with serving with them? People = soldiers.

Someone said something about it being an immoral issue. It has NOTHING to do with it being an immoral issue, it has to do with BEING OKAY with what they perceive to be an immoral issue. For example, a female soldier who is very against both abortion and homosexuality is more likely to be okay with serving with someone who had a few abortions rather than a lesbian. Why?

I've never heard that before. Where did you get that information?

You are so prude that you were offended by a lighthearted joke! :giggle:  :giggle:  :giggle:  :ty:

You might want to get a few more posts under your belt before you go being rude to one of out members. Reba is well liked here and known for her class.....not to mention her post count beats yours 1000 to 1.

I'm not sure what that means or what significance that holds, but it seems pretty wierd. Posts beats what? Anyone who has to post back against an "everyone's a little bit gay" post might have their knickers in a twist, if you ask me. Is my AD account threatened? :laugh2: People are wierd.....

People are weird indeed..... No argument on that

In bold, are you serious or just joke?

I don't see this member break the AD rule. :dunno:

Maybe..... :)

I think it is kind of ridiculous when some who isn't even qualified to PM yet starts insulting/mocking someone with over 20,000 posts. I would feel that way if they were insulting you, jillio or Jiro too..... That's just me. :)

Thank you but I'm OK. I've been called things worse than "prude." :giggle:

BTW, his definition of "prude" is wrong.

You see value in a number where I don't think most people would. Good for you, friend.

Maybe, one day.... maybe. I will get to PM. Do you think?! And maybe, just maybe, you'll reach 20,000 posts too.

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

My point is courtesy...... It's rude to enter a situation as a newby and criticize long standing members........obviously the point is lost on you.
