DOD Asks: How Would You Feel Showering With Gays?

What about people who like privacy? Should you force them to shower publicly? Should you force straight men to shower with gays?

Should restrooms be integrated? Is segregating public restrooms unconstitutional?

Where are the boundaries? Do you view people who wish for there to be boundaries as petty?

Why?

haha did I ever say at all that I wanted to force ANYONE to do anything against their own will? NO...Like how you tried to turn it round on me tho...good try.
I don't care who showers where or when or how..All I am saying is if someone CHOOSES to shower or go to a public bathroom where a lesbian or gay person is don't ASSUME they are checking you out or wanna bone you just cuz your of their sexual preference. I like boundaries actually...I dont think public restrooms should be integrated. Not to sound like I have a big head or I'm conceded but I get hit on enough as it is in a regular public settings, I'd rather not get hit on while I'm naked or doing my business, thanks:)

And I bet if you asked gay guys if they wanted to shower with straight men they're answer would be no...gay guys have high standards lol they don't look at every good looking straight guy and want him..trust me

I can vouch for that. At the surprise party I threw for my ex... my new friend asked if I was gay (because of some funny rumor back then) and I said yes. My gay friend (what a very lovable fella) saw me and lol'ed big time. He said - "oh shut up. you're sooooooo not gay" and we were lol'ing. My new friend was very

I showered with gay guys......Didn't know it at the time. Two guys on my high school football team were gay. Didn't know it until my 10 year reunion.

Perhaps DADT is handy that way..... :dunno:

damn right Alicia.

what's up with this homophobia? 21st Century now and still homophobic with same misconception/taboo from Medieval age?

Yup, agreed.

Homophobia should be end. :mad2:

I agree. I also agree that the military should not abide by civilian legal standard because the soldiers are the one at the frontline, taking bullets for us. If homosexual soldier is distracting them or causing a problem in unit cohesion... then it has to be addressed.

Yup, what about adopt no touch policy like UK military has one to avoid readiness/focus issues?

The military job isn't social or play but it is all about defend our country and deal with other country's conflicts. If anyone whoever, including gay people is heavily social so I wouldn't recommended them to join military.

no touch policy? I don't know what's that and that sounds pretty dang silly.

I believe people of any gender, sexual orientation, and race should be able to join military because they do love this country as much as heterosexual soldiers do.

It means you can't harass, play, disturb, bother, sexual activity with other armed forces while wartime or in duty to defend our country.

In bold, yup, I agree with you but I had seen some generals are concern about end DADT may reduce of military readiness/focus on duty but for me, I don't think so.

Foxrac, so you don't think its ok if two people man and woman fall in love in the military? thats wrong? or is it just wrong for same sex couples?

Some fears that I don't see posted much. Are that because much of the war on Terror is fought against Fundamentalists, now would we a bad to have openly gay members serving in the Military. The fears are that this would lead to even more brutal abuse by captors and help the enemy recruit by appealing to fence riders that this was something Allah forbids.

My post isn't only target to gay people, also it applies to straight people as well.

I believe that every armed forces are supposed to focus on their duty, they could do whatever they want during on military break like return to home but during military duty, it is different.

Remember, I'm bisexual.

that's a very odd name they have... "No Touch" Policy.. :dunno: but based on your statement... we've already had that a long time ago. It's called Discrimination and Sexual Harassment.

I don't think its wrong for anyone to be dating or together in the armed forces...As long as it doesn't interfere with their duty to defend their country then I don't see it as a problem

Me neither, I don't really see too big an issue with relationships in the armed forces (aka work) but some businesspeople think differently. You know how it goes, work is work and leave the domestics out of it.

Like that bank teller the other month who got fired for being good looking.

My soon to be 19 year old has expressed interest in joining the Army....and I asked him the question that was posted....

He thought for a few minutes, then said..."well, as long as they don't bother me in the showers, I'm OK with it, besides what other choice do I have if I decide to enter the military?"....

I do forsee some problems with this happening, but all in all, anyone that is willing to fight for their country has the right to do so.

not between officers and enlisted. no way. it's a serious problem. it can actually be the matter of life and death.

Fraternization is off limits in the military. That means, no dating or friendships between officers and enlisted, or senior officers and junior officers, or senior enlisted and junior enlisted, especially if they're in the same chain of command.

But people who have already signed up can be stuck with rules that change after they've joined.

Rules change. Companies change their policies. If I get a job and I like but then my boss changes a rule, do I just throw my hands up in the air and give up? No, I finish out my contract and then I think about finding a new job.

And it's not like gay members are joining for the first time, they're already in the military. They already shower with their straight service members, and yet the world hasn't ended.

Exactly, and that would apply to gay and straight members alike, so allowing gays in the military really wouldn't change anything in terms of sexual conduct. A gay member is no more or less likely to fraternize than a straight member and anyone who did would face the same consequences as a straight member.

I agree. Emotions get in the way of rational thinking.

On another note, this reminds me of a story my SO tells me from time to time .. It's not of the same subject as the rest of this thread, but I think it carries a similar line as to what some others were saying in this thread. When he was stationed overseas (Korea and Iraq) there were 3 women soldiers in his unit, the rest male. One of the women was openly gay, the other had a boyfriend, and the other was married. The one that was married slept with all the male soldiers, however. And it disrupted the entire unit. She would walk around naked whenever she got the chance, etc. It got to the point that it drove everybody crazy. So it is interesting that the issue here was about her promiscious behavior, and the one that was openly gay was not even an issue.
