Audiences experience 'Avatar' blues - CNN.com

These people seriously need to get out once in a while and get back with nature and see the natural beauty instead of some fake, rendered piece in a fantasy movie. It's entertainment, sure, but not a replacement for the real thing when it comes to what Mother Earth has to offer.

OH F****** BROTHER!!!!

I completely have a sympathy and understanding for those with mental illnesses, BUT, I feel there should still be the capability to separate fiction with non-fiction (in most cases, except where delusional tendencies are already present)

Moreso those who do not suffer from pre-existing depression or suicidal ideations need to really get in touch with reality. Im sure 99.9% of us who saw Avatar are quite capable of distinguishing the fact that that it is purely for entertainment just like all the other fictional flicks made for the last 100 years. Just as those individuals who enjoy fictional literature for imaginary and entertainment purposes, movie goers need to understand the same entertainment value when they decide they want to see the movie.

I know, I know that this article says nothing about anybody's pre-existing mental history- but I feel people should enable a little personal responsability or else stick to the G rated movies from now on.

What is depressing about this article is that it doesn't include the appropriate praise for James Cameron et al for the time dedication and skill involved to make it such an enjoyable realistic and mind capturing film. Seriously does one get off an exciting ride at disneyworld and get depressed when they realize this won't be the reality they face everyday in the world???

It is only a movie.
Everything in movie is fake.
I understand that some people feel like it is "heaven" to them, making them wanting to die so they can enter the heaven as Avatar-type world, or something like that. Also, I understand that some people want to be in happy-world. Be realistic, we live on this Planet Earth, it is still beautiful, live with it, SO BE IT!

Thanks for the warning, I will try my very berry best to maintain a pulse when I watch a bunch of animated blue people interact via green screen :)

I am with you, bro.

This is all are just a movie.

I read this same article about the depression. I didn't really want to see Avatar until I read about how beautiful everything looks. Now I'm going to see it this weekend.

I'm such a sucker...

Do I hear a new tactic to get people to see movies?

"Come and see this movie! It makes people have suicidal thoughts!"

Don't tell me that you're not enticed to see it.

I won't waste my time. If it comes out on DVD, I may think about it, but I haven't seen the inside of a movie theater for at least 10 years except to see the openings on Harry Potter 1-4. Last movie in theater before that was Backdraft.

The movie people are killing themselves to have seen.

I agree 100% with Koko here. Now please excuse me while I go slit my wrists. (insert smiley face of your choice)

There's no place like home... There's no place like home... There's no place like home... Damn it!!

Not surprised.

With everything literally disappearing before our own eyes... people are starting to rationale the same as they did back during the Industrial Revolution-- romanticized serfdom. Despite the fact that working at the factory put oranges on the table rather than gruel, some people do yearn for the things that used to exist despite the conditions and inconvience of those times.

*shrugs*

I know I hear kayakers bitch about the west coast disappearing, including Baja California, and that's the last place of "untouched" wilderness is in Alaska. O.o
