My uncle, who was my father's only brother died this week. He had Alzheimer's. My Aunt, Uncle, and cousin Curt and his wife Carol came down from Minnesota to their winter home in Delray Beach, FL. They arrived Saturday evening. While they were getting settled in and working on making the condo a little more secure for the massive decline in my uncle since last winter, he managed to slip out. After searching quickly for him, they called the police. Palm Beach County Sheriff officers and bloodhounds went searching. He was found about a mile from their condo. He had been hit by a car was had died at the scene. He was 82.
I had not seen my uncle since my wedding in 1993. Since my father had already passed away, my Uncle Chuck gave me away. Aunt Vi mentioned to me last month that Chuck was declining rapidly and at that time was like a terrible two year old. Aunt Vi is doing fine and is a little at peace. We all know that Chuck is in a better place and no longer suffering, and my Aunt will be able to get some rest and recuperation now. She said her days started at 5am and sometimes didn't end until 1-2 am. Not easy for an 80 year old lady.
Chuck is survived by his wife Violet (Vi), son & daughter-in-law Curt & Carol, daughter & son-in-law and their son, Constance (Connie) & Keith and Nathan, and son & daughter-in-law, Clifford (cliff) & Pam. He was predeceased by his daughter, Catherine and grandson, Nicholas. Chuck was my father's only and older brother.
