Road Trips

Hope to do Route 6 in my 1969 Shelby GT500 mustang, will be a sweet ride!

haha, it'll be fun!!

i always wanted drive on historic of Route 66. Then drive with imaginary car- "Lighting McQueen" and "Doc Hudson"

Heh, That'd be cool if Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson actually exist. It'd be a speedlight trip for you.

Speaking of Route 66, I was told that they have several Cadillacs that are partially buried in the ground. I thought that was nifty and would love to see it.

Liza - Do be safe on your trip and and most of all, enjoy the trip! I'd love to hear how it went when you return from the trip. :)

Jolie, it would be fun to do 48 states trip lol like we did mentioned in other thread ages ago.

:laugh2: Hopefully Alex's and Vampy's credit card won't get declined. LOL

Ah, Yes I remember we did mention about that in the other thread ages ago. I'd love to go on these 48 states trip and see every landmarks, monuments and other awesome places that has been remain to see.

Well, If both of their credit cards are declined - We'll have to find a way for them to 'cough it up. :giggle:

The BEST, most mysterious, most intreging, most romantic, most beautiful road trip is definately the Al/Can highway from Vancouver up through yellowknife and down into Alaska. Very limited time of year to achive this and research and planning definately needed. Take this roadie spontaneously and you might become permanent resident in the permafrost. This Trip is definately a 10-14 day cruiser and tons of extra gas is needed, and 4x4 if at all possible. Time and space between civilization areas can be significant- hence the neccesity of 300 mile (recommended) surplus worth on board. Doing any driving at night can be unerving and dangerous, but there are a couple wonderful lodges that are worth the stop. The scenery, wildlife, clarity in air, and intimacy of location are extremely attractive assets that definately make this roadie for the hearty worth it.

Wow, Doug, that sounds very interesting. So when is the best time of the year to go there? Summer?

When researching for the trip it was said that last 2 weeks of July was best time......we did it 3 week of August and it still went well without any major problems

I would love to take more road trips, but sadly gas prices is going way way up more now then ever before. Now my gas is up to 3.99 to 4.31 I am sure it go up 5 buck or more. I can always create a vacation right here in my own home. :)

I thought I'd create a thread related to Road Trips. I am aware the gas prices are spiking up at all costs but let's leave the "gas talk" out of this and make this a positive thread.

Here's some ice-breaking questions that we can share about our road trip experiences and what we can look out for.

What's your favorite thing to do during a road trip?
taking pictures and checking out the scenery and everything on the way

Would you much rather ride the highways or the scenic back roads?
Depends where it is going, if it's something interesting I can take the backroads if there is time

Does anyone have any tips for a female road tripping by herself on safety, etc?
Of course go with a friend, that's a simple tip...not a good idea to go alone in my opinion

Where would you suggest a road trip to?
Beautiful mountainous regions with lot of tall coniferous trees and wild life

If you were to go on a road trip, where would you go to? and why?
I would go anywhere but here, once again. :D

Do you play games to pass the time in the car or do you just sit there and ask questions like: Are we there yet?
I drive mostly on road trips. :P

Discuss. :)

Here are the answers....:))

whoo roadtrips! nothing more than roadtrip makes me happy. I've went on soo many, countless. in all four seasons. and went from coast to coast five times in two years recently, never get tired of driving! my salvation.. anyway, to answer your questions.

What's your favorite thing to do during a road trip?

-- thinking! thinkings, I'm very much a thinker so thinkings and of course, analyzing scenery, visit new places, hidden roads, alleys, bridges, caves, waterfalls, etc .. amazing spots such as glass muesum, tank full of fishes inside a real (dumped) bus, a house made out of only newspapers, etc.

Would you much rather ride the highways or the scenic back roads?

-- both. highways if you want a faster way, and greet a hello or flick a booger to all drivers. :giggle: backroads if you'd like to get lost and explore a little more. caves, coves, rocky mountains, wildlife trails, piers and hidden point vistas are fun to find!

Does anyone have any tips for a female road tripping by herself on safety, etc?

-- ah, that's difficult one. all of, well, except for one roadtrips I've went alone (unless you consider with 10+ pets isn't) and never had a problem. not a boo-hoo single! and I'd say - being deaf and female and young - everyone freaks out! come on, chill. like liza did, check! check, check and check! from a city to city and from state to state, no difference really. few things to know though.. always look under your car at all gas stations. never stand by car doing something for more than a minute. do not stop and get out of car if you see a note sticking on back of your rear-window. change lanes thousand times in few minutes to ensure that 'suspicious' vechile is not following you, especially at nighttime. bring a rottweiler... just kidding. if you happen to be alone out there, need help with anything (i.e. shove out snow, getting more gas or making a phone call for you, etc.), please look for female drivers or male drivers with children. never, ever stop until you're sure you got (MARKED) police car's number and memorize it. and yes, bring pepperspray and a whistle in handy! oh and for snowy roadtrip, always -always- have a traveling shovel and flares with you. find tree barks/twigs, pack inside you to keep yourself warm if freezing. unless you'd like to purchase and bring an electricity blanket.. ahh, so much more. let me know if you want to hear more lol.

Where would you suggest a road trip to? If you were to go on a road trip, where would you go to? and why?

-- ohh. phew.. let me get back to you at that later soon ok? (beddy time for me soon!)

Do you play games to pass the time in the car or do you just sit there and ask questions like: Are we there yet?

-- plenty! first, are you looking for games with/for kids or yourself, with your peer friends?

last thing before I go for now, I know you said to keep gas discussion out of this but I want to say I love my little gem! gas is never a problem or an issue for me. at one-time two-week roadtrip (from new york to california visiting zillion of friends), it only costed me $200. ($201 to be exact). :cool2:

pssst - garnetmom, don't be silly! you always can spilt gas with a friend...friends. care if I (and a few of pets - I has to!) join?? (don't miss out a lot). and that question goes the same for you deafbaja. ;)

alright, off to bed now ... sorry this is so long! hopefully I helped some.

*vroom vroom* ciaociao! :bye:

I would love to do Road trip but it will be in the states or Europe not in England (too many traffics, traffic lights, roundabouts!!!)

I would love to hire a van and Drive through the mountians to see my Parents who lives in Austria. (approx 1000 miles)

Gotta LOVE road trips!

I've been on road trips all over Queensland, the NT and all the way down to Sydney.

I love to travel on a road trip! I like to take a good shot at scenic road.

My husband and I went to Florida from here. It take us 12 hours drove there. I love to view the mountains and lakes. We have a own GPS. It's helpful! I love to read the maps. I am very good at navigator!

I have done my shares of road trips in the late 80's and 90's (during college of course!) and I haven't gone on road trips in 8 yrs! I look forward to do road trips in the futures when the gas prices are reasonable and etc.

I love road travels than traveling by planes :)

My hubby and I just talk about a road trip...probably in 3-4 years from now. (not sure when though...) It gonna be a lot of FUN! I cannot wait to touch some more states and touch them ALL beside Alaska and Hawaii (those both can wait! :giggle: )

He said why not to drive to CA from Rochester...I was like oh boy, that's a long way!! But that sound like fun but a lot of driving! I don't mind...we can stop wherever we wanted to go...

So that'll be A LOT of planning where we wanted to go, where to stay (I believe we'll be camping out...cheaper!), etc.

I honestly don't feel that gas prices are ever going to be "reasonable" again. When I think of the "reasonable" cost is when we finally get mandated hybrid->electric-->and ultimately Hydrogen (best option) automobiles. I am scared and skeptical of the fuel resources of our world and the greed of those who are in control. I think I go back to horse and buggy road trips......oh wait, I'm severly allergic to horses. NM

Road trips can be great yet sometime boring depending the scenic viewings. Began to dislike any long trips that take more than 10 hours... when I was a young adult, I could drive up to 20 hours straight. I then understood why those older people prone to take it "easy" on the long roads and stop by at a hotel in the mid-travel.

Wonder how much it affects those road trips due to the crazy high prices those days ahead. I should have taken few long trips where I would like to take back then, darnit! lol

If you're not afford to sleep at hotel for several days. You might get a RV. My husband and I want to have our own RV in future when we have a kids. I think RV is cheaper than stay at hotel. What do you think???

I want to touch all 50 states and include 2 countries in Alaska and Mexico. I touched 17 states in my life. That's sucK! I want MORE!!!!

what's wrong splitting the price with friends?

I agree with you. It can share with friends' money to help pay the gas. My husband, me and his best friend and his wife are plan to go road trip to Cedar Point's Theme Park in Ohio on Aug. My husband will drive. His best friend will pay him for gas.
