Need help with your VP???

Ok Here is it HomePortal 1000HW

I use all Setting that on D-Link Videophone and all Setting move to VP-200 because I am able recieve Calls on D-Link Videophone just fine and I able to sending Calls. And it worked but if I need use D-Link I will have to switch Etherent Cord to D-Link Videophone when I finish and I have to switch back. That worked. But in November I will get other ISP called RoadRunner from Time Warner Cable
If I understand correctly, when you connect the dlink vp everything works fine but when you connect the VP-200 you can not send or recieve calls. Is this correct? Remember that even though you have configured the vp-200 ip address to match the dlink, the MAC addresses will be different. Some ISP's provision by MAC address. Do you remember if you had to contact your ISP when you first connected the DLink VP? If the answer is yes, then you may have to contact them and provide the MAC address of the vp-200 in order to get your service provisioned to allow that VP on the internet. If you never contacted them and the DLink VP worked fine after it was setup, then I would suggest that it's a setting on the 2wire homeportal. Let me know if you had to contact your ISP to get your other VP working. Thanks

If he is behind the router then there is no need to worry about the mac address.

BTW, his VP-200 is working now! He posted it here and on the other thread.

Yes, My VP-200 worked.. But My friends try call me with VideoSign and some reason my VP-200 won't answer but when my friends call me from VP and I answer and it worked. But I am little worry because some other my friend have D-Link Videophone and they always use IP address to call VP-200 customer I am wonder if they call me will I able answer with IP address.. Seem only Phone number worked on My VP-200... But IP address sucks!

It all depends, not always the case. My system is 100% MAC address dependent because I wanted enchance the security system PLUS whenever there is problem, all I have to do is reboot everything and it comes back normal.

Your confused with two IP addresses. You can NOT use that NAT IP address, like 192.168.0.1 You need to give your friends your PUBLIC address. That is what is supposed to be. That NAT address is really hidden from the Internet. Meaning NOBODY can see your IP address that is why your not able to located by your friends.

At this time, I do not have VP-200. I do not have reference to assist you. Until end of this month I may be able to help you. At this time I have not decide to go forward or not.

Not if his ISP is provisioning devices by MAC address. Many providers do just that. The workaround that I know of is to get a single mac address provisioned and use a router/firewall that is capable of MAC address cloning and configure it to clone the MAC address of the provisioned system. I have seen this before but again, it depends on your provider.

Sorry, I didn't see his post where he said it was working... Good news.!!

But I still have problems picking up VideoSign User. But I will wait for RoadRunner in November. Only one friend has VideoSign and it won't bother me. And it only one month waiting for RoadRunner under Time Warner Cable Service

Yup, whats more, they need mac address to open the internet access. Without MAC address, they won't let you surf or connect to the internet. All modem got their own MAC address, that is how it works,.

That's right and some ISP's want the MAC address for the modem and the MAC addresses of everything behind the modem as well.. Not all but some... I see this with DSL service providers mostly.

Oh what about 2wire HomePortal HW10000
Well, It's not the modem that is the issue. It's your service provider. They are the ones that make the rules about provisioning. You would have to contact them for the details... .Sorry

I don't need worry about contacting them because I am switch to RoadRunner in November! I am not waste my time with SBC/Yahoo Service.

I just found out! I was able to recieve Calls and Sending Calls fine. But One final Problems on VP-200 is I am not able to picking up any Calls. Everytime I click Answer and it hang up by itself!! But no worry now because I am getting Cable Modem next week on Friday... But I need find out if I can using Wireless on VP-200..

You can set up wireless. But be warned... is it worth the risk?... Somebody with lappy in a car can drive by your house and find you got open wireless networking and CAN barge in your system and doing whatever illegal, like piracy, illegal child porn trading, etc... and in few weeks you could have a cop on your front door and arrest you! Can it happen? Yes! That is only if you don't do it right! Majority of wireless networking at homes are without security! Even at my work, I was surprised that I could log in and use their internet anonymously!!! That is something I advise anyone to STAY AWAY unless they know how to properly set up. EVEN if you hire somebody from place like "Geek Squad" or so called "wireless experts", they aren't doing it right. They just set up basic configuration and say thank you for business, then bye! My strong advise is USE MAC address restriction on router.

Oh I see.... I made descion now. That I will talk to Cable Man if I can set up Cable Modem with VP without Wireless but with a Router of course because I am using Computers in my home.

I would run from an ISP like that. I want to decide what I put on my network without having to call the ISP everytime I make a change.

I agree with you but there is a workaround for those ISP's that operate that way. Sometimes you don't have many choices of ISP's in a given area. Here is the workaround. Write down the MAC address of the provisioned system. Now put a router/firewall that is capable of MAC address cloning just after the modem and configure the MAC cloning feature to mimic the MAC address of the provisioned system that you wrote down. Build your network behind that firewall/router. The end result will be that the ISP only see's a single MAC address comming from your local network.

I am sure RoadRunner & Adelphia don't need MAC Address! I hope they don't need MAC address because I don't want call everytime I change!

you won't have to if you follow the workaround instructions I posted above. Good Luck
