    ASL grammar

Nononono, :p I'm enrolled in a two year ASL program, and I've taken a class or two at the local school for the deaf, but my next classes don't start until the spring so I'm studying on my own for now to try to be ahead of the game when classes start up and was looking for grammar help bc I know...

    ASL grammar

Anyone have some good links/references on ASL grammar? I'm looking around on my own, but it always helps to ask too! A lot of what I do ends up being signed english unfortunately

It's one of the big reasons I work night shift, I'm up anyways! Been doing solid nights for 7 years now, love it!

    Deaf Groupies???

Ahhh.... I see now... The only deaf people I've had contact with were patients or my teachers at the WPSD, and they were pretty gentle with easing us into Deaf culture apparently! I'd heard that people in the Deaf community were much more direct than others, but I guess it caught me off...

    Odd looks

I'm horrible at ASL grammar. I'm sure half of what I sign is signed english instead of proper ASL, which is why I'm taking classes instead of self-teaching. And there are some things, mostly my medical stuff, that I have down pat in proper ASL, so it's easy for me to sign/speak those basic...

    Deaf Groupies???

I do tend to jump to the defense. Sry, just seemed like everyone was jumping on the 'those damn hearies are all just posers!!' bandwagon.

...... since when is not being deaf a downgrade? One's not better than the other, it's just different

    Deaf Groupies???

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the general gist of the convo here, and it's entirely possible that I am, but it seems like non-native ASL users/hearing people are being grouped together like we're all just learning ASL as a passing fad or because it seems like the 'cool thing' to do, to communicate...

    Deaf Groupies???

I'm learning ASL because I work in an ER and there's a decent sized Deaf community in Pittsburgh. It's kind of a pain to have a trauma come in and we have to wait a half hour for an interpreter to come in, and that's happened a couple times that I know of. It made sense for me to expand on my...

    Odd looks

So, I've discovered that if I sign while I'm talking and doing everyday things I remember/learn signs easier and faster. So I've started signing almost 50% of what I'm saying when I talk to my family (they're picking up some ASL too bc of this!). Well, I was talking to some coworkers last...

    Students Looking for ASL buddies

Well, I don't really use my skype, but I have one and would love to sign w/ someone fluent who can help me learn. I learn so much better/quicker when I can actually sign with a live person, books and websites only do so much! My Skype is julietta.mangino

    Hi all!

So, my name is Julietta. I'm 26 and I live in Pittsburgh PA and work in a city ER. I've always kind of been curious about ASL, but working in the ER here I started to run into more and more deaf/HOH patients and waiting on an interpreter is annoying, especially when all I need to know right...
