Hostile society of the hearing people

Well, just remember... it's the norm for the majority these days. Racism, discrimination, hate crimes, etc. It's always your fault, no matter what.
Ok... I will take the blame for all of the shortcomings of society. It's all my fault. :giggle:

Subjectivity, in and of itself, means that what you interpret one way, someone else will interpret differently. Don't take all comments regarding hearing people so personally. I certainly wasn't offended by the title, and understood that it was never meant to make a blanket statement.
I didn't think the title was subjective. You are the one that suggested it was. My response was patronizing your view.

 No I just get tired of being lumped with all of the people that do bad things. I am hearing and I am part of the "hearing society" but would never be hostile towards anyone.

If you are not one of the 'hostile' hearing then count yourself out. Simple as that. We are not lumping you with them.

Just have to learn not to take things so personally. If you are an exception to the majority, you are secure in that knowledge. No need to argue it.

Then you really need to practice your patronizing skills. The title was subjective in intent and meaning, and it is evidenced by the fact that your interpretation is different from the majority.

Said my piece on this before, so won't belabor it, but I agree with you, RD. I think it harms us all to make blanket statements that apply to all hearing, all deaf based on the bad actions of individuals that have nothing to do with whether or not they are hearing/deaf.

Blanket statements are always to be suspect, when applied to any situation. However, on a forum, one should be able to use a little judgement of when the statement is referring to "all" of a population, or just a majority of those that the OP has had to deal with.

It seems that hearies get very defensive around here when they see something that might be insulting to them, yet they continually make statements that the deaf find insulting, and then try to justify it with,"That's not what I meant." Do I see double standards at play?

I am quite sure that it's not the "majority" that is hostile. I would argue that it's most likley a minority.

Nice spin... I like that... however I still disagree.

Judgement is a two way street. How about practiciing judgement in how we choose to word things?

Are you forming that estimate from a deaf perspective or from a hearing perspective? It suggests a hearing perspective, as it is reflective of your experience. The OP has had a different experience, and therefor has formed a different opinion.

If you are referring to the above post you quoted, I chose the way I worded it for a specific reason. It communicates the message I intended to send. If you are refering to the OP, keep in mind that this is a forum where the majority are deaf, and therefore, there really is no need to cater to the sensitivities of the hearies.

According to the OP the entire hearing society is hostile. If that is true from the OP's perspective then that is truly sad.

It's a general statement and was not directed to any specific post or person. To apply it in this context it is directed towards the OP, the title of the tread and post #1.

It does not say "entire". And I am seeing quite a bit of hostility from the hearing population on this thread today.

 Not going to get into a pissing contest with you Jill... We both know you would win that one. :giggle:
