Hostile society of the hearing people

Sweetie take off your gloves because I am on your side.

If I thought the event was small or insignificant I would not have mentioned it...NOW BACK ON TOPIC!!! :cool2:

Please don't address me in such a patronizing manner. The way in which you mentioned it was minimizing.

BTW, I haven't put my gloves on yet. Trust me, there will be no doubt when I do.:cool2:

"a few students shutting down a campus" are the exact words you used. Your choice of words minimizes the significance of the event. The very fact that you are arguing this implies that you either see us as stupid or illiterate.

BecLak I totally disagree with your statement...but anyway...as Jillio stated back on topic.

The fact that you are continuing to argue the point is suggestive of someone who is closed minded and not likely to learn much about deafness and the culture from this forum.

Jillio, if you note the signature I think this person just likes to be disagreeable.

I think they have a picture of you under the definition, "Anal" in the dictionary.
 No I just get tired of being lumped with all of the people that do bad things. I am hearing and I am part of the "hearing society" but would never be hostile towards anyone.

Your perogative. But this is indication that you interpreted the title that way, but ALL people don't.
I interpreted the title exactly how it was written. In my humble opionion...

Hostile Society of some hearing people

Would have removed any subjectivity in the title.

I had never really thought of the hearing society as being hostile until I lost my hearing. Some of them can be cruel and heartless, but then again, a lot are totally cool with us.

My thoughts run on the lines of: If there have been the issues for the deaf and hard of hearing all this time, why has it taken the hearing society so long to begin to understand what we need or are capable of? And, even then, most of them still have no clue as to what we are and are not capable of. I have mentioned to numerous people in a lot of different businesses about the ADA laws and such. Their comment was that it only applied to wheelchairs or blind people. I know better, but it seems that a lot of business people around don't know or are just putting forth the "blind eye".

When I got my first HA I only got one HA to wear, it was not until years later people realize that wearing two HA would be better! DUH! When you got eyes glasses you did not get only one len for one eye, so why didn't people
think that we should have two hear aids ! I do not think hearing people will really ever did it. Look how long we had CC on TV and there still are shows on TV that do not have any CC. I think the best one I saw was an ad on TV for a hearing aid and there were no CC! Of all the companies you would think one selling their HA on TV would have CC.

Well, just remember... it's the norm for the majority these days. Racism, discrimination, hate crimes, etc. It's always your fault, no matter what.

Subjectivity, in and of itself, means that what you interpret one way, someone else will interpret differently. Don't take all comments regarding hearing people so personally. I certainly wasn't offended by the title, and understood that it was never meant to make a blanket statement.
