Learning disabilities.

My point in all of this is where Jiro needs to exercise discretion in his opinions when he claims to know "facts" when it is far from fiction in this subject.

I still stand on my opinion that people who do not have ADD/ADHD should not share opinions on this subject until they have experienced this, lived through this as well as gone through this pain.

people say that ADHD/ADD are far more likely to do drugs and alcohol, even take excess amount but I just don't think that is always true. That's all. and I don't think excess drinking is usually a sign of self-medicating. Sometimes, a person just drink too much rather he have ADHD or not.

A lots of psychologists consider hoarding, being a workalcoholic, multiple pet ownership as self-medication for ADD.

Perhaps not but excessive drinking or drugs is all too common with ADD. I don't do them because it's easy for me to go overboard. I used to drinki a lot when I was younger till I started coming down with the shakes. Then I had to cut way down on my drinking. I can easily see myself becoming a junkie on drugs which is why I stay away from this stuff.

You don't want to know how much soda pop I go thru each day. Once I shocked a pothead when I told her how much I went thru.

Excessive self medicating can be a sign of other disorders though - not just ADD. I wonder what jillio would have to say about this.

I do stretch my body constantly or walking up stairs up and downs back and forth. My hubby loves it when he ask for me to bring him something from the kitchen or basement or the other rooms. If I don't do all of those then it drives me more crazy. Walking a lot in the house keeps me sane.

I go through a lot of soda too as well, DS. You're not the only one.
I do too and cut out caffeine and sugar after about noon.

And DS, if Jillio were here, this would not be happening. He would just fight with her and not be bothering anyone else.

I understand. Although, I have heard diabete do drink alot. As far as Junkie, I hope everyone will see they can easily become one. I don't know why people think they are not at risk if they just take one pill on drugs. Although, I have taken pain killer before and so have my husband (For his surgery). For some reasons, neither us really liked the feel of it. My husband refused to take more pain killer because he hated it.

Well said Botts!

If it is anything that he cannot tolerate, it is criticism and being proven wrong with factual proof.

i'm wondering if kids with Cochlear Implants get diagnosed with ADHD as much as deaf people (that's why I feel any pychologist can not just diagnosed anyone).

My husband who is hearing has ADD, confirmed it himself 10 years ago after just out of college. He did well academically, but when it came to tests he barely made it. He was and still is very distracted. He does very well when things interests him otherwise he'll wander off doing something else too often.

Another thing about him, he *constantly* talks. There are days that I just wasn't in the mood to listen he'd talk to other people even strangers on the train (after the gas $ hike), but then these people get turned off. He can't help himself. It can be embarrassing sometimes. sigh.

Also, he must keep himself busy at ALL times. He CANNOT take a week vacation because he will go nuts. He has to work to keep his mind busy. Even that wasn't enough so he took up secretary/treasurer job for fun flying. Now another one, he's going to to photography as a side job. :aw: Btw, he is a Senior computer engineer.

My last ex hated me for that-- talking constantly. - drive friends bonkers. It's why I go out a lot... Stopped drinking though, but I got into a bad habit of collecting animals. Now, I just cook all the time.

I miss my Korean ex... She never got mad at me for talking too much or wandering around aimlessly.

yeah sometimes my hubby askes me if i plan to go out. He can get a chance to focus on wathcing movies without interrupting.

I notice that i go very well with people who are very calm that very well than people who are inpatient eh. If those inpatient people then i have to turn myself into quiet and daydream eh.

whoa @ this thread! Will get back to you in a while. :)

It's diet Coke that I drink - not the regular one. I got hooked on Coke about 20 years before I got dx'd with diabetes and I had already been drinking mostly diet Coke several years before that. I had to cut out Lime Gaterade when I got dx'd with it. I love lime flavored anything.

Most people with diabetes do not drink anywhere near the amount I do though.

The only time diabetes drink it or water to an excessive amount as a rule is if they're having problems with high blood sugar. My blood sugar has not been higher than 120 for the past week.

Story of my life. Right now, roomie thinks I can't hear her... Yeah, that's part of it... But I am tuning out her impatience, hahaha.

I have to focus when I read if it is a boring topic....I have read 4-5 pages before and then realize I have no idea what I just read. This happens when I read the book of Numbers in the Bible. Hope I don't get struck down for that

You won't its not open for debate or anything. Its all good, you just inspired me to check it out :)

ha ha guess you learn something then meet a new person and tell person who you are and all like that to see if the person accepts you for who you are. Good luck with the new person whoever you likes.
