I know. Silly, isn't it?

But I agree with you, Phillips. Damienmommy is very welcome here, and she is free to post anything she feels about her concerns about her child. She has a beautiful little boy, and she is right to be concerned about the effect this will have on him. She has the right to ask for understanding and empathy from other parents, and from the deaf community. I hope she sticks around and gives us the pleasure of getting to know her and her son better.

I agree - my brother and his then wife experienced horrible backlash from Deaf Community when they decided to implant their Deaf daughter with a CI (both of them are deaf) - since that day, I have promised myself not to judge anyone who is on either side of the fence. It is and will continue to remain as a controversial subject. This subject requires empathy and understanding.

Well, this is her own rant/venting. It´s normal like everyone who express their feeling and said something *I wish.....*. You would feel the same when you get anger on something.

Good point. It was a rant. Then, someone else comes along and slams her for it. NOT cool!

It is not an issue of for or against CI. It is an issue of a parent of a Deaf child being concerned and asking for understanding of the fact that she is concerned about the services that are being provided for her child. That is the whole point. She was attacked and told not to post here, and that is unnacceptable.

People see the letters "CI", and immediately become so defensive that they refuse to see to the heart of the post, and what this mother was actually saying.

Exactly. The OP was attacked. I don't like to see anyone attacked for an opinion and I spoke up. In my opinion, this should happen more often. The fact that I'm hearing shouldn't have anything to do with it. It's called being a human being and trying to empathize with someone regardless of whether it affects me directly or not.

I have bilateral cochlear implants and love them. If you hate CIs don't post in the CI section. You have your opinion and I disagree with yours. this is not meant to flame, I was taken back by your posting. Why should the deaf children take off their CIs just because you dislike them? That is wrong. If you hate CIs so much, move your child out of this school into another one.

WHOA!!! Where is your empathy??? NOT! Your comment is downright rude and insensitive. Hands down.

I totally understand where Damienmommy is coming from. She expresses her concerns about her son's interactions and why CI kids do not use sign language to communicate with him.

Again, the quotes that you have claimed she made are not there. The words you have bolded are not the words you typed in a previous post and accused her of using.

Shame on you, too.

I have no idea how you are not seeing those quotes as being the same.

I am deaf, so my son is deaf too. He rarely wears hearing aids but he doesn't like to have them on for long..maybe just an hour then he take it off. Anyway, I want to share little something..

My son is 2 years old, he goes to school every 2nd Wednesday with about 8 deaf kids there. Most of them got CI, all of them have hearing parents. Kids can talk and can understand what they saying. BUT they doesn't know the signs, just very little bit. My son knows signs and he tried to talk to them but nobody paid attention to him. He feel kinda left out, but he still trying to play with kids.

I just wish kids know more signs and stop use CI or something. I want more deaf people come on the earth. Get big deaf world. but I noticed that there deaf world get small and smaller cuz of got CI and focus on talk voice than learning signs. I want to see my son to have social with kids who know signs and able to communicate with him. Than have son talk to adults all the times. He have deaf family on his dad's side, his cousins is hearing and same as his age, they know signs but he don't seen them everyday but I want to find other kids who live near me that know a lot of signs and same as his age, so he can chat with and play with. :-( I really hate CI, no offense.

I just got done reading all this post about how terrible my posting was. I expressed my opinion after reading this post. If someone hates CIs then why seek out the CI section and post? If this poster has a right to express her comments, then I do as well. As for the others who jump on the bandwagon, it is less about what I wrote and more about other posting. Jillio and I disagree on just about every topic, so I expect her to post the way she did. I expect no less from her.

I am a deaf individual posting a comment against another deaf individual. I did take offense against the comments as a deaf individual.

Now you may go back to bashing me, not only is my skin getting thicker, I expect no less from AllHear, oops AllDeaf.

Maybe because the post itself was about CI and oralism. Also, where does it say that all posts about CI have to be positive?

She is simply asking a question about why the CI children who are not using sign in any form are not in an oral environment, such as a mainstreamed one with hearing kids.

And I thought you were an advocate of having ALL deaf children be in an enviroment where they can be educated with other deaf children, especially if ASL is offered in that enviroment. Why didn't you offer that as a comment? Why didn't you explain why it is so important to give CI kids both language instead of defending the idea that they belong somewhere other than the Deaf community? I believe that a Deaf school is a huge part of the Deaf community and by saying that a child isn't supposed to be in a Deaf school is tantamount to saying they are unwelcome in the Deaf community. Deaf schools are where ASL is passed from one generation to the next, it is where Deaf children from hearing families meet their first Deaf peers and it is where every deaf child should feel welcome. Deaf schools are were deaf children belong, no matter what technology they use.

I think she's just picking on you like she did me in the other forum about using the term hearing impaired.

Oh, well, isn't that funny how some individuals talk to you like you're not deaf enough or deaf at all to know anything about deafness?

She defended the mother. That should be enough.

So if a Deaf mother came in here and said that all deaf children should get implants because she thinks it is right and that Deaf schools should be closed down and deaf kids mainstreamed, should people jump to her defense? What if a hearing mother did it?

I don't think a Deaf mother would say that on this forum.

Plus, she is defending a point that she actually disagrees with. That is ridiculous. If it was actually just a question, why didn't Jillo explain why the parents are right to have their kids there.

Ask her. I'm not a mind reader.
