Just figured out at 36 year old that I am color vision deficient. I guess I see green poorly. It's funny to think all this time I thought I was seeing what everyone else was. I now know that about 8% of males are color vision deficient so I was wondering if anyone here was.

I use to get orange and green mixed up when I was younger, my mom had a brother that was colorblind and I have female cousin who is colorblind .

Females are very rare, about .5 percent and all of her children would be color blind.

Sorry, had that slightly confused. All of her sons would be color blind because the mutation is found in the x chromosome and for a woman to be color blind both her x chromosomes must be mutated. Her duaghters would then recieve a single x chromosome and be carriers. Some sons of carriers will be color blind and some daughters will be carriers.

If the mother and the father are color blind then all the children will be.

That is interesting and does explain why so many men are color blind... thanks :D

Yeah , I was surprise when my female cousin told me she was colorblind . This is on my mother side of the family , there were kids in her family and I can't remeber if more than one of her brothers were colorblind.

They say women not colour blind but light green always looks blue to me going by what people tell me.

It's possible to be color blind but only affecting one color spectrum (like the green).

here's one site explaining more-

another- about part way down is a chart with prevalence in males and females.

I'm only affected with green. And it's mild too otherwise I'm sure I would have noticed sooner. When I found out I asked all my friends and am surprised that none of them seem to be deficient. You'd think since they are all guys that one would be.

I think everyone are at least slightly colorblind, because we all see the colors differently.

For me, I have a bit of hard time telling the difference between black and navy (really dark blue) so I would often confuse the navy blue as black.

And also... When I see gray, I get confused with it sometime for being blue or green.

when i look one eye then the other... one has more vibrant color than the other, but i have perfect vision.

the Black/Navy thing may be normal (whatever normal is...) I have a hard time telling the difference between the too mainly with clothing items.

Color or to be more precise pigment and the perception of it is dependent on the light, more then us..
Change the light, the pigment you percieve changes. The object remains the same.
Color and how we percieve it also is very much cultural,
Its an interesting perception or lack of one...
Mmmmm
