    CI Surgery approved today

Angel, Good Luck with going bilateral. I went bilateral almost 5 years ago and have not regretted it. Keep us posted. I agree that the N6 is nicer. I am going to try to upgrade after my N5 processors are over 5 years old.

    CI Surgery approved today

Angel, Glad your new audi seems to know what they are doing and I hope you will see some improvement. It will take a numerous mapping sessions so I hope you and your new audi will continue to work together. I use the N5 processor. I use the everyday program when I watch TV but sometimes...

Swelling on the inside part of the CI

Have you thought of trying different magnets? If the magnet is too strong it could be irritating the skin. I had too switch to a weaker magnet because I found the skin under the magnet was getting sore. It has helped. I am wondering if the magnet is too strong and causing the swelling.

Cochlear implant - which ear? Please help!

I was lucky that my "bad" ear was also the one that had tinnitus. I am lucky that the implant has almost completely eliminated the tinnitus. I still get tinnitus once in a great while if I am not wearing the implant. When was first activated I did notice the tinnitus was worse at times but...

Cochlear Freedom to N5, personal experiences?

Southpaw, I upgraded from the freedom to the N5 and I feel the sound quality is better with the N5 but not a huge difference. The N5 is way more durable than the Freedom. I have had the N5 for 3 years and I have not had any problems. I had three cracked controllers with the Freedom in three...

    Well here is a twist

Yes, those are some of the ALDS. I agree with your audi about taking things one step at a time. You are dealing with a lot. Let us know how things work out for you.

    Well here is a twist

Theatregrl, Sorry your are going through so much with your hearing. With your loss being Severe to Profound it is worth trying the Naidas. I tried an older version of the Naida and I liked them. If you have not already asked your audi, I would ask them what the trial period is and make sure...

    HA vs CI"s

BleedingPurist, Yes, the first ear I had implanted was my "bad" ear. It had about 18% Speech discrimination with a hearing aid compared to 35% in the other. I was never totally without sound but the poor speech discrimination was a problem for maybe 18 months before I decided to do...

    HA vs CI"s

HOH -ME, I am bilateral but it was done in two surgeries. I felt the HA helped my brain adjust to the first CI and the CI/HA combo worked well for awhile. When I received the second CI things did not sound as strange at the start as with the first. My brain seemed to adjust quicker with...

    Going bilateral...

Lucia, good luck with going bilateral. If you have not done so already check with Insurance support at Cochlear Americas they should be able to give you some advice. I have also read that another processor might be coming out but it is just a rumor at this point. If anything maybe you can...

question for those with bilateral implants

Ash, When I had my second implant activated I noticed sort of an echo and a beep. I guess my brain adjusted because I don't notice it now. Like cdmeggers wrote you just need to give your brain time. You also might want to try just using the new implant alone. Your right ear is the dominant...

Anyone with 1 CI and 1 Ha?

I was bimodal for three years and then went bilateral. The CI/HA combo worked well but I lost more hearing and the HA was no longer enough.I missed hearing with both ears. I am glad I did not have both CIs done at once because the hearing aid was a huge help for my brain adjusting to the...

    Which CI is the best?

The best CI for one person may not be the best for others. I would ask your Audi what choices you have and then think about your lifestyle. Your Audi should have examples of the devices available for you to look at so you can compare them. Good luck with your surgeries. I think it is a good...

    flying after implantation?

Angel, There are a few things you can try to help equalize the pressure when you fly: 1. Yawn 2. Chew gum 3. Take a Decongestant (if you have a stuffy nose and it is ok with your doctor) 4. Drink water to keep hydrated so your sinuses don't dry out. I have tried all of these.
