Most of the time it doesn't happen, but if you don't share that information, it will NEVER happen.

Diversity: Again, sharing information somehow implies a non diversity? When I started working here, my boss left me a brochure for his church "just in case". At first, I was offended, but realized that he was just offering me information in case I am looking for a church to join (I was new to the area). It's true that there is a FINE line between sharing information and "endorsing" a group/type of people. For example, if my boss kept asking me "So when are you gonna join my church?" Then he has definitely crossed the line.

Some people can be SO touchy sometimes! Whatever happened to common sense?

Actually I think your boss crossed the line......especially if you just started working their.....Unless of course there was conversation before hand that led him to believe you would be interested in such information.

Diversity became a subject because Jiro mentioned his school promotes diversity. IMO circulating an email to quash the views of a group is hardly promoting diversity.....it's choosing one viewpoint over another. *shrug* It would be one thing if this was said after hours at a bar between 2 people. This however was an interoffice email.....

I think it's best you move on since you're assuming a lot of thing. So Packer's view on homosexuality... how about it? why is it that you're shrugging it off as "hey it's free speech" but you're not extending that same courtesy for Ground Zero mosque iman?

You are attempting to distract from the hateful nature of Packer's statements by bringing up totally irrelevent issues. Where the email came from is not the issue. What a school does and does not promote is not the issue. The hatred and judgement being spewed by Packer against a group of people is the issue. Especially since another poster has now enlightened us to the fact that if Packer says it, it becomes doctrine.

right - I hold no ill will toward any Mormons and their belief. I only have a problem with ONE person - Boyd Packer. He is the one who said such thing - him him him. He does not speak for God. He is just like us - a mortal man... flawed.

Pope Benedict has regretted his Islam remarks. And Pope's public apology for the sins of Christians back in old time like the Inquisition and the Crusades.

Bingo. Packer should offer a public apology, as well. His statement is hateful and carries the potential to create viiolence.

No :lol: I am not the one that brought up his school. I am merely pointing out that hating a group because you disagree with them is not diversity.....it's simply reverse hate. Not that the school necessarily feels that way.....but the author of the quote in the OP sure did.


Is it that you don't take the topic of public hatred demonstrated for a minority group important for discussion?

Nah.......If someone gave me info it wouldn't bother me. But, if I were on a jury and someone was suing because they were offended......I would side with them......

Diversity means one is tolerant of other's belief even though one does not believe in other's belief. The only difference between those in diversity and those NOT part of diversity is that one does not publicly denounce it or publicly speak out against it. Diversity = Tolerance.

There is no tolerance from Boyd Packer. He is denouncing homosexuality as sinful and that it is destructive to human's nature. Not to mention the fact that this speech was made in untimely manner - the death of Tyler Clementi.

I think we are beating a dead horse here. I have stated how I see it many times throughout the thread.

His sermon was based on his religious beliefs.. Since discussion of religion is forbidden on AD I will respectfully decline to comment on it. However, I will say, people who are intolerant of a particular viewpoint cannot in turn label themselves tolerant.

and again - refer to my post #187 where Pope has made public apology. If Pope was wrong, surely Boyd Packer can be wrong... no?
