Wrong to link OBL with Geronimo

I was more on topic than you were. Tonto was played by Jay Silverheels, a Native American. I guess a lot of my jokes fall flat but that is okay, I will keep on keeping on. :P
I got it, completely. :)

nope. cuz Caucasians are not the minority group.
At one time, Irish immigrants were the newcomer minority in the US.

Each wave of immigrants went thru the discrimination phase.

I guess it's a good thing OBL's code name wasn't Dummy Monkey or Deaf Ape--then there would be an uproar here. Native American slur, well . . . not so much.

wondering why discrimination's still going on for black people...

but in my previous post, I mentioned Caucasians. Irish people are considered as Caucasian.

I know but in the Caucasian world, not all Caucasians are "equal" in the viewpoint of some. It's further broken down by ethnicity.

Prolly because the skin color is harder to hide than your ethnic origins. Also, the Irish have been here long enough to assimilate themselves into the mainstream.

I don't act German or Swiss German because I am not part of the German culture and my mother's family has not been part of it for centuries. No one would think I'm anything other than an Anglo-Saxon.

Jiro, you're of Korean origin correct? I'm sure you know what the Japanese think of Koreans. Not all people of Asian descent are treated equally either.

Imagine if it was Whitey.

"Geronimo" isn't exactly a slur, though. It's a man's name. I don't think that's quite comparable to the various ethnic slurs that are not a specific name.

It would be more like code-naming him "Roosevelt" or "Truman" or if you want to get into names of people who fought against the U.S. army, Confederate names like "Rob't E. Lee" or "Forrest" or something like that. I doubt very much that any of those names have ever been used as code-names against an enemy.

If Native Americans say it is a slur, trust me, it is a slur. I have a feeling that an era is passing, and I for one am not bothered by it. Yelling "Geronimo!" while doing something dangerous doesn't cut it for me any longer. Neither does doing something dangerous, but that's another topic. :P

We have one Native American posting , that prefers to be called American Indian, that says it isn't a slur.

But, in general, I agree.

Yeah, I know, but the times, they are a'changing etcetera. Just speaking for myself, I won't be yelling that name any more. It's just me. :)

I can't recall that I ever did!

"Geronimo" isn't exactly a slur, though.

A person of the white privileged class doesn't get to decide what a slur is to a Native American (or any other minority group). If the Native Americans say it's a slur, it is.

...they did.

Reba, that's why I'm not questioning whether it's a slur from my perspective. They said that it's a slur so I believe them.

I guess I didn't make my point very well. Using "Geronimo" (a proper name) for an operation would be similar to using "Robert E. Lee" or "Bedford Forrest" or some other Confederate general's name. It would be equally offensive. I doubt that our military has ever used (in recent history) those rebel names as codes for an enemy, and they should not have used "Geronimo" either.
