US voters had backed President George W. Bush's agenda for sweeping change at home and abroad, Mr Bush said today.

He warned that Democrats and others must work with him or be left behind.

He was also unapologetic about the unpopularity of his policies in many world capitals, such as his commitment to spread democracy in Iraq and other parts of the Middle East.

"Listen, I've made some very hard decisions: decisions to protect ourselves, decisions to spread peace and freedom," he said at his first post-election news conference, adding that war on terror would remain a priority.

Bush just declared himself Dictator last night The way he spoke like that, analyst says that was dictatorial message. Congrats, Bushies, you just got the dictator in.

Edit: I decided to change the title, I prefer not to mislead anyone on this topic. Second Edit: Uh? I seemingly cannot change the title.. I guess I will have to ask Vampr about it.

I don't see it as a dictatorial message -- I see it as a message that since the top levels of the federal government is a majority of Republicans, they're going to push Republican agendas through and there's not much else we can do to stop them.

That also means that the rest of the U.S. will have to work together with that party to make thier own items pass, or else it'll just be a completely one-sided party for the next 4 years.

Some people accused FDR of being a dictator when he could establish liberal Supreme Court. Same way for Bush.

I don't think so. Why should more than 50% of americans want to work with these cheaters? I mean, republicans & Bush cheated the election twice with plenty evidences around here?

To me, that is dictatorial message. It is like: If you agree with me, you are ok in my book. If you don't agree with me, I will fuck you over. That's how I see from here. And also that's fascism. If you look up close enough on fascism and you will find remarkably similar between Bush's political strategies and Hitler.

Yes he is a dictator. Period. I don't have to take the words from cheaters like you so I don't care about what you said.

And funny thing that you ARE being pessimistic when Bill Clinton became President. Typical hypocrite

How typical. You refuse to listen to the other side of the political spectrum. Just like Dumbass Michael Moore and his failure of a movie.

*snicker* how retard you are! You are the one who refused to the other side of the political spectrum as well.

Haha, hypocrite. how typical of you! Thanks for laughs.

In fact, I supported Clinton in '92. But then I changed my mind and supported Dole in '96. So I wasn't pessimistic when Clinton first became president, I was pessimistic when he was re-elected.

I have compared notes from both sides and came to the conclusion that Bush is a better leader than Kerry.

Yes, I agree with you that Bush is a better leader. Look at economy, it gets worse and worser... Soon will be worse than Hoover's era. Unemployees rating is very higher. Abortions are very higher under Bush's term (200,000 abortions per year while under Clinton's term, 60,000 per year). American forces killed more than 100,000 civilians in short term war. Etc etc. So definitely yes that Bush is a better leader.

How can I refuse to listen to the other side? I watched Fahrenheit 9/11 and it did not convince me at all. At least I had the gall to listen to what the other side had to say.

Really? Are you sure that you actually listen? More and more evidences gets surface and support Michael Moore's facts. Whatever you want to say. You and I have different views so therefore we will not agree to disagree.

btw, I was a Reagan's fan as well until I found out more about him and his politics, it got me sick and switch to democrat ever since. Economy (for middle-class) & civil rights is my first priority.

Hmmm...
I don't remember FDR apologizing about his unpopularity with Japan, Italy, and Germany during WWII.

I don't remember JFK apologizing to Castro for the Cuban missile crisis.

I don't remember George Washington apologizing to the King of England.

Being right is not always popular.

Being popular is not always right.

Dumbya uttered the "D" word THREE times on THREE occasions......

"You don't get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier." Describing what it's like to be governor of Texas.(Governing Magazine 7/98)
-- From Paul Begala's "Is Our Children Learning?"

"I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator," Bush joked.
-- CNN.com, December 18, 2000

"A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it, " [Bush] said.
-- Business Week, July 30, 2001

The last line was uttered right in front of the cameras and that footage ended up on F-9/11.

That is not the same as "declaring" oneself dictator.

In fact, the lines you quote prove that Bush said just the opposite. He said that a dictatorship would be easier, if he was the dictator, which he is not, which means this government is NOT a dictatorship. That was the point of his "quips"; he was using them to emphasize that he is NOT a dictator.

Guys, lighten up! There are enough actual serious topics to discuss without seeing something sinister in every off-hand statement. You will just drive yourselves crazy.

Reba, I love you to pieces, but I think you are taking "interpreting" too far. There is no need to interpret his words. He SAID it.

He did not say "if".
He said "as long,"
It would mean one thing if he said "if" but the other "as long" means something entirely true, I am SOOOOOO sorry you do not see it.I realize you ADORE this killer, but the world and Fallujah does not.
Bush is is sick MORON controlled by others, get over it.

I hate to be nit-picky about language but it is precious to my heart.

The phrase "just so long as" means "only if":
"If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, only if I'm the dictator," Bush joked.

He said it as a joke. I will even concede that it was a stupid joke. But it was a joke, not a declaration of becoming dictator.

Bush can only control 1/3 of the government. That is why there is check and balance in the consitution.
