I had noticed that some deaf people are weird, if im them on AIM then blocked me cuz I'm under 18 years old. I have nothing to do with adult but I will be 18 years old soon.

Please explain about problem with minor.

Thanks

If thats is the case then it sounds like there are some agists on this board. I don't think it really matters how old someone is, as much as it is how knowledgeable you are and how much you can contribute to an active conversation. Which sometimes is relevant simply because of how much and mature and experience as you age. Cheri commented the other night about how smart she thinks I am for a 19 year old (which I'd disagree with).

By the way, I like your screenname. Blink 182 is one of my favorite bands.

Well, I don't feel welcome to talk to kids that is under 14 years old depends on their behavior too. That's all annoying to me.

I'm not quite following you.

I said it's depends on behavior but I have few buddies that is 14 years old. :)

Ok. Now I follow. Well, then I guess it just depends on each individual person, and what you have to contribute to the conversation. If someone looks down on you just because of how young you are, well, thats just dumb, and makes them agists. No one can be faulted for their own age.

Sometimes adults don't want to AIM with minors because of the potential liability. Everyone has to cautious now because so many bad things happen to kids. Adults have to protect themselves from any accusations. It is just self-protection. It is not personal. It is true for Deaf and hearing.

True I dont blame them. Unless it is my relatives that is under 18 then I would talk to them. I had a deaf cousin's daughter who was 14 at that time and I was there for her need. So now I also have a friend's son who are in need of mentor so I was there for his need.

Yes, that is WHAT'S happening lately. Good example Michael Jackson. It is possible that whoever turned you away MIGHT be dealing with accusation in the past or maybe current. So they have to be careful what they are doing.

On other hand, SOMETIMES kids can cause adults trouble and that is other factor why adult want to avoid this. We adults all HAVE to deal with realities, responsiblities, etc. Once you become 18 years old, welcome to adult world, it is not easy world! FYI

I do stay away from kids many times, for this reason. I do not want any cops or FBI agent on my front door, then have them make me lose everything including my own kids and house!

I been picking up a lotta wind that minors can do a lotta bonehead things that could cost people their freedom.

I have a few friends who are 18 years old and I do still talk to them on aims, but I have to be caution when I am chatting with someone under the age of 18 as Reba had made that clearly....

I'm sure they don't mean to block you, sometimes they have to be caution you know!

Do you have to tell the whole world? :giggle: (just kidding)

Well, I don't mind talking to underage on aims, It's not like we are sex-cybering, It is just a normal conversation, that you talk with anyone on aims.

I understand your point Reba, It depends really, If the underage started talking dirty, Then you know when to block that person. Same goes for adults as well. I don't see how harm just having a conversation? :)

Sure you don't see how harm it would be. But the problem is R I S K. There are bound to have kids out there who likes to look for trouble, fabricate the story. What if 17 yrs old you just talked with walked to the police and told him that your trying to do something illegal like cybersex, or selling dope. There is evidence that conversation exist, thus can lead to police believe into this 17 yrs old kid more than you. Happened? Sure it had! So, do you want take that chance? It is totally up to you, but I wouldn't take chance, sorry!
Internet is still Wild Wild Web and there are too much illegal activities out there.

I was falsely accused few times in the past and it is NOT funny defending myself. Im sorry, my experience gives me this perspective. Once you experienced you think totally different.

Just because it happened to you, doesn't mean it would happen to everyone else. How would a police believe a 17 yrs old without back up evidences of facts?
