I do,But when jackpot goes higher than 25 million thats when i play cause if i win i get only 15 million because 10 million goes to the democrats.

I quitted at years ago.

I have been tried but I never won. What a waste of money! I prefer spend my lottery money for things on my children!

I haven't played the lottery games like Mega Millions and PowerBall in a long time, but I sometimes play scratch-off games to support schools and children. I’d say about five times a year. I have won some money several times – nothing big. I personally know of someone (he is my mother's family's friend's son) from Tennessee - he was one of Georgia's first lotto winners, winning around twenty-five million dollars. What he did with the money was that he bought the farmland he grew up on from his mother so he and his wife could one day move back to Tennessee when they retire, he even built a new house on the property for his mother to live in. He has put rest of the money away for his little daughter.

I DO feel guilty for having played lotto games though I was taught that gambling, etc is wrong.

Not anymore I used to a long time ago, but it is pointless cuz I never won in the past so why Should I keep playing?

Some people go nuts over it but not me. :P

I play from time to time. It usually depends on when I get off campus. When that happens, I'll buy a ticket or two. That's an average of one for every three month. ;)

I used to play twice a month when I was in Texas. The closest I ever got was 1-off per digit.

EX: WINNING # 2-16-20-31-39-44; MY # 1-15-19-30-38-43

It really pissed me off when I got that. :(

It amazes me that so many people spend their hard-earned bucks on Powerball tickets. To put the odds of winning into perspective---In a one-million dollar jackpot, you must lay the dollar bills end to end for one thousand miles, and only ONE of those dollar bills will be picked. You can drive at seventy miles an hour alongside those dollar bills blurring past you for over four hours, and think about your chances of stopping the car and hitting upon the winning dollar bill. Mind-boggling, huh?

awww poor baby, get over it sissy.

* I won I won I WON!!! *....I'm just pulling a few legs here LOL....

Actually, I haven't played in quite a long time now, since I gave up too much hope over it and end up didn't win anything, maybe I'll give it a try next time, who knows! ;)...

I won $50.00 twice over the game cards,...What??? I know, I know it's not a million of dollars but heck it's alot better than winning a dollar bill! :giggle:

I knew that I had no luck for gambling ever since the day I turned 21 and lost my hard earned 2,000 bucks gambling away in Reno. :(

Since then, I ve never gambled again. Whether it is at casinos or buying lottery tickets, etc.

To democrats? haha, be sure to check the facts next time. *chuckle*

Anyway back to the topic, I won $5,000 dollars from a small and local lottery two years ago, it was lucky... It was my first and last lottery that I filled up. I donated approx $3,000 to GreenPeace for environment and other things. All left is chump changes, I used it to buy some DVDs and small things for my jeep.

Edit: oh yeah, I used some money to treat my ex at expensive restaurant as well.

Yes it goes to the democrats. Because democrats dont belive you should keep your money. Democrats dont belive its the peoples money because its washingtons money. Democrats take money from you on everything you buy,When you work, When you drive your car you name it theyre take it from you ,so they give it to lazy assed bums who dont wanna work hard for 8 hours
in a sweatshop. So those lazy bums can get free food, free housing, free transportation and free medical care and im paying for it. Thats why i voted for george bush and voted republican straght down the line.

 That is not true. Many people are surprised to learn that lottery jackpots are paid over 20 to 25 years and the IRS withholds 28 percent federal income tax from each check. You may also have to pay additional income taxes when you file your return, depending on your overall financial situation. It has nothing to do with the Democrats.

I have never bought a lottery ticket. When I turned 18, I was told that on your birthday you just *had* to buy a lotto ticket and a pack of cigarettes. I passed on both.

I did love scratching tickets when I was a little kid -- I sometimes talked my mom into buying one just so I could pull out a dime and scrape away. I also remember when lottery was made legal in my home state . . .

I think its a bit of a scam -- mostly poorer people spend money on tickets (and its like a tax after all!), hoping to be made rich. On one hand it is harmless fun, and yet on the other . . .

*sigh* Allow me to post New York's Lottery as example:

Tax and offset withholdings from New York Lottery prizes:
The Lottery is required to report all prizes greater than $600 to the Internal Revenue Service. Failure to provide a social security number will result in Federal tax backup withholding from any prize over $600. The Lottery is required to withhold Federal, New York State and local taxes from all prizes over $5,000. New York City and Yonkers taxes will be withheld based on the winner's residency.

The current tax withholding rates are:
Required Federal withholding 25%
Federal backup withholding 28%
Federal Non-resident Alien withholding 30%
New York State withholding 7.7%
New York City withholding 4.45%
Yonkers withholding .385%

Legislation was passed recently that requires the New York Lottery to withhold New York State taxes from all Lottery prizes over $5,000, regardless of the winner's place of residence. This law became effective October 1, 2000. This tax law can be viewed at www.tax.state.ny.us. By law, the New York Lottery is required to withhold past-due child support and prior public assistance received from any Lottery prize of $600 or more.

Ok now, tell me where did they said about democrats? They clearly said that the money will go to IRS, state and federal taxes. You were ranting nonsense about democrats.

Now shall we go back to the lottery topic?

Because it started with the democratic party. They voted to raise taxes up & up & up & up & up & up & up ever since after the 60s. Every democratic senator and congressman brings up subjects on raising taxes. Every democratic president loves to signed the tax increase bills. Theres not one democratic president has ever vetoed a tax bill.

I won $40 once, and my father won premium bonds twice and he gave me $10,000!
