Who loves Math?

Did somebody say math? Yikes! *Deafbajagal fleeing from this thread* Was never a good math student.

*fleeing along with you* I wasn't a good Math student either.

Here's the best explanation I can give you...

Basically, whatever number is given in exponent can be viewed as fractions.

2 ^ 4 = 16

( 2 ^ 5 ) / ( 2 ^ 1 ) = 32 / 2 = 16

2 ^ ( 5 - 1 ) = 2 ^ ( 4 ) = 16

So, let's try 0.

2 ^ 0 = 1

( 2 ^ 3 ) / ( 2 ^ 3 ) = 8 / 8 = 1

2 ^ ( 3 - 3 ) = 2 ^ ( 0 ) = 1

That make sense?

You gave me a headache :laugh2: I stink at math

Not to me, because 2 times nothing should still equal 2, and zero with an exponent of 0 should equal zero.
But then, statistics is my forte. I got a "b" in calculus. I can make it work the way it has to work, but it just doesn't make sense.

Just wanted to add, thanks for trying, Vampy!

Um...Ask Meggie. She knows everything than me lol.

Yeah! And I wish someone could explain to me why any number to the power of zero equals 1. The only explanation I have ever been able to get is "Because it is.":rifle:

 I would say the same!

2 + 2 = 1 + 3 = = 2 x 2 = 4 x 1 = 8 / 2 = 2 ^ 2 = 4 ^ 1 = 16 ^ ( 1 / 2 ) = 4 :)

That is funny...
I have a quicker way.
16 ^ 0.5 = 4
Or just plain 4. Haha.

(1/2) becomes 0.5
2^2 is 4
4^1 is 4
16^0.5 is 4
2x2 is 4
4x1 is 4
8/2 is 4
2+2 = 4
1+3 = 4

Weird but funny display of order of operation... haha.
Ahh, never mind. I see you are just showing many different ways to get a 4 :)

I enjoyed math. Far too black and white for me. So I changed my major: physics and computer science. I might not know all the math in the world, but I understand the purpose of much math. I admire those who take the courage to study the theoretical mathematics, and I am curious as to how/when theoretical mathematics or physics is applicable.

I love Math.

I gonna be Math Education in BA when I go Gallaudet University. :D I gonna be Class of 2012. :D I take BS or BA, then I will take Master. :D

2 x 0 = 2?

where did you learn your multiplication?

I think that wrong.

2 X 0 = 0

I not take Calculus yet. :( I will do that later when I take class future.

It ok. ;) You do fine. I know many deaf don't like math. ;)

i struggled with calculus, and didn't finish the second semester, but that was mostly because i just didn't study and rarely did my homework.

if you're overwhelmed, think of it this way: for real mathematicians and physicists, calculus is like their adding and subtracting. finding an indefinite integral might seem like the hardest thing in the world, but to the experts, that stuff is just the very first step to solving real problems. they could ace your calc final in their sleep.

use that to motivate you.

I enjoy adding long strings of prices and calculating tax in my head while shopping, but I fear that counts more as weird than as a love of math.
