This is inspired by an article I saw recently promoting the soon-to-be-released remake of "Stepford Wives." It has a very sinister looking Nicole Kidman in the lead role. I've also seen somewhere that they're filming "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny Depp as Mister Wonka himself. Should be interesting!!!

Just wondering - what "oldie" would you like to see a remake of? And who would you cast as the new stars?

I'm thinking it'd be cool to see a remake of any Sherlock Holmes movie. That was some good suspense. Or maybe Hitchcock's "The Birds." As Sherlock, I would probably cast Alec Baldwin and as Dr. Watson, maybe Danny DeVito? ;)

Have fun thinking, folks. :)

i think it will be neat to remake the "Wizard of OZ"

or remake a show called "knight rider"

Oh, I can't believe I didn't think of this one. I was inspired by one of the "new threads."

...."Sound of Music!" Not sure who I would cast, but knowing Hollywood, they would cast Britney Spears in Maria's role and throw in eight famous young faces for the VonTrapp children. Hey, it's a good marketing tool and people would go see the movie just to see Britney's performance. :) As for Captain VonTrapp, we'd need someone who looks strict, no-b.s. type of face...

.....too bad Hitler's dead. How 'bout James Gandolfini? Sure could use a break from the Soprano image...

...although I'm not too sure I'd pay to see Britney Spears in a lip lock with him. LOL. Oh, to be a Hollywood casting director. So many things to keep in mind, eh? And we think we have it hard. LOL.

I didn't know that, Scuba. I do know though, that I enjoyed it more when I was an adult than I did when I was a kid. It was too musical for a deaf little gal to really follow. I always kind of thought these people were being silly...singing everything as the movie went on...there was more singing than there was dialogue, for heaven's sake...and the older versions of the movie weren't closed captioned. The DVD is, though...but it sure would be interesting to see new people in the main roles, new scenery, etc. Probably would be a good Disney flick.

yeah.. but personally i prefer it to be the old style.. since the clothes are from the 40's era..

yeah.. my mom told me those family escape germany and all moved to america and set free. instead of getting killed by those germany soliders.

I love classics. They are my all favorites. However, it is hard to like a remake of these because the people who played roles bring so much charm to it.

I love Willy Wonka but I dont know if I could love Depp in Wilder's old role. It is just so hard to love a remake because I fell in love with these films in the first place, due to characters and chemistry between them.

I adore Hitchocks films but no one can ever replicate Hitchock's brilliance in these films.

You do pose a good point, Meg. I've seen the re-make of "Psycho" with Anne Heche as the famous shower broad, and Julianne Moore as her nosy sister and Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates. It wasn't as good as the old film, but like I said, a lot of the oldies aren't captioned...so we either have to get a subtitled DVD or hope they'll make a remake or re-release the older films.

What about the "Exorcist?" Did they remake that one or simply reproduce the old one and touch it up, etc? I'm not sure, because I've only seen the older version when we rented it a couple of years ago.

i agree with you meg...

The Re-Make of Star wars isn't my type.. i still like the old star wars better than the new starwars..

Oh I miss the old Star Wars! I remember getting sooo excited during first two Star Wars movies but when I see a new one lately, I go like  LOL

The plots may be good and can be used over and over like in remakes but it really boils down to people who played in the roles and directors too.

I saw a remake of Affair to Remember and it wasnt the same as the original one with Gary Grant. How can any guy think he can replace Gary Grant? LOL

I'm dying to see Stepford Wives, as I loved the book and the orginal movie.
I think they should remake To Kill A Mockingbird, and Tree Grows In Brooklyn. I can't believe they are remaking Willy Wonka...they are going to destroy it! Nobody can be as good as Gene Wilder! They should instead do "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator!

Yeah, there's an idea!!! A modern version of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator would probably do well in the box office.

Oh my gosh !! You brought the title name of the movie "Stepford Wives". It was very old movie in 1970 !! I remember that movie, it was damn good movie. I wonder if they do have CC in that movie. Thanks for refresh my memory. I missed most of old movie in 1970 because of no closed captioned. I must see "Love Story" with CC. I was so freaking that movie when I was teenager. I never understand what the movie talked about. I was so frustrated with no CC. I just guess why they were angry, happy and cry.. Didn't comprehense whole of that movies in 1970's. :fu2:

I must grab the movie "Stepford Wives" with CC this weekend. :D Hollywood Video better be have that movie !!!

I think the new one is being released into theaters first, but I'm pretty sure they captioned the old one. It might be nice to compare, no? :)

Yep, it is a factual story. The Von Trapps emigrated to the USA. Now they're operating a nice hotel of their own in Vermont! Not sure exactly where. But oh boy, I'd love to meet one of them :)

Yeah, I'd love to see a re-make of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and guess what?! They are! They're turning it into one big movie yay. Umm, I can't think of anything else I want re-maked, they're pretty much doing all the stuff I want to see done again, including the Marvel comic movies (never saw the first ones but I like the look of the new ones).

Actually, they are bringing the original Stepford Wives out onto DVD pretty soon. June 14, 2004, that's the release date for the DVD.

Hitchcock movies are great!! And yes, that would be great if there is a remake of one of them....there has already been a remake of "Rear Window" with Christopher Reeves and "Psycho"....but how about "Spellbound"? :)

One good remake would be "Some LIke it Hot"...this was orginally a 1950s movie that starred Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, also with Marilyn Monroe, that is about an all-girls band, and Tony and Jack had to dress up as women because 1) trying to find a job and 2) escape from the mob. :) I would love to see how THIS ONE turn out!!! :)
