What Qwerty phone do you recommend?

Thanks Techbill and I will let you guys know about it. :)

Please explain what do you mean to unlock devices on eBay?

It means the devices can be used on any wireless carriers like Cingular, Sprint, T-mobile, etc. It isn't locked to use one carrier, basically.

Only Cingular or TMoblie or AT&T can share same devices across carriers since those devices use sim card.

It cannot be use on Sprint or Verzion becasue it hardwared using ESI number so "no sim card" so you are limited to Sprint only or Verzion only phones.

Also they use the GSM network rather than the different network technology under verizon or sprint.

Sidekick, Blackberry, Nokia and everyone else

good news for any anti microsoft windows mobile users,

nokia e90 is coming up soon. so it ll come with hsdpa and no window o/s.

I don't have a mobile commuincation device. The message I sent Sidekick applies to all such devices. Until that's resolved, they're not worth my money.

I'm a Deaf person who to be frank is quite taken in by SideKick. Here's what's stopping me from buying Sidekick 3 for myself, my wife and possibly my daughter. As far as I can tell, a Deaf person cannot contact the police, an ambulance service, or fire department directly using Sidekick. If I had the equal service hearing people have for contacting emergency aid, I'd get Sidekick today, no delay. I travel a lot and often via car. A few times I've been in situations where I or someone I witnessed needed emergency assistance but I could not make a direct call. And in one such case, I was actually assaulted. I had to literally drive to a police station to report the crime as I could not call the directly and time was of essence to get the offender. Only the fact he was dumb enough to return to the scene is why he was caught.
I think some type of 911 feature or emergency button that perhaps requires a procedure to prevent accidental or juvenile prank call should be in the device. Until then, I won't be buying a Sidekick or any communication device that doesn't allow equal ability to call for emergency when its most needed. Going through a relay service only delays that help. Even a common phone if you dial 911 and just leave it off the hook, help is sent to the location. No reason SideKick and its competitors can't do the same.

Cell towers does support 911 calls and it is redirected to the nearest emergency center also it will trainagle your postion from using cell towers so it can pinpoint your location however is not 100% accure yet. Some of the newer phone have GPS built in but I don't think it is linked to emergency yet.

Some of the phones like PPC 9700 etc support tty mode so I wonder if it will work connecting to a tty at the emergency center hrmmmm.

I got the Nokia E62, so far it's good. I will give you a review note later on. It is a nice phone, but I'm ackward with the OS and all that stuff. ;) I got it set under TAP (Text accessibility plan) for the deaf. :D I tested a wireless line speed of 119kbps , not too bad.

I just tested the line speed of 232kbps at my work. thats pretty fast for edge network

Answer: You hope. Not unusual for 911 operators to hang up if no response comes after a call. Happens more than you realize. Deaf don't need an "Oops, sorry" because by then it's too late. Here is an item I shared with another list group:

The following may be of interest to Deaf Mobile Communication Device users.
I've been in communication with T-Mobile outlining why I and a number of others I know don't purchase the MCDs. Mainly, we Deaf don't have equal direct access to emergency services and I've been in at least three situations of various types in which I needed that. Thusfar only pure dumb luck got me through.

In an effort to assist them in leading the way I associated the value of of doing so from a marketing perspective and the increase in sales they'd have. I also pointed them to three sources where Deaf people do have direct access. Primarily they are overseas (typical and not in the USA) for them to study and discourse with for ideas on how to make the concept
work. Jennifer has been very responsive in communicating with me on this and the below is the step she's taking at this time. Hopefully, we will see the Deaf able to communicate directly with 911 emergency personnel when they need it rather than being forced to go through the drawn out experience
of using a relay operator when speed is of essence.

Dear: NAME REMOVED

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile and allowing me the
opportunity to assist you today. My name is Jennifer and I am here to
help you with any concerns you may have with our service.

You have contacted us today because you have been looking at the
Sidekick 3 as a possibility for a communication device but see a lot
lacking in the way of emergency features.

James I am sorry to hear that the Sidekick 3 does not offer you all of
the features that you need to be available to you. I know how
frustrating something like this must be to you on a daily basis and I
apologize for this kind of inconvenience.

I took the time to look at a couple of the websites that you posted on
your last e-mail. It is really amazing how left out, an entire sector
of people have been shut out, and we (the hearing) don?t really give it
much thought unless it is brought to our attention like this. I also
believe that the way it has been set up on
the: SMS Emergency Text System site, it
could not appear more to be more straight forward. It does seem that it
does not need to be so complicated to work well.

I hope that we can work from an example such as this one and have our
Sidekick 3 work for our hard of hearing or speech impaired customers as
well.

What I have done is submitted what is called a ?Voice? form to my direct
supervisor Susan J. with your concerns about the Sidekick 3 and your
suggestions for it. She will forward these to T-Mobile for further
review.

I hope that I have been able to address all of your concerns today
James. It has been my pleasure to assist you.

If you have any other questions or concerns, you can respond to this
e-mail using the case number 231289 or call into the Customer Care
department at 1-800-937-8997. We are always happy to help!

Thank you for your interest in T-Mobile. We really appreciate your
business!

Respectfully,

Jennifer M.

I called ATT/Cingular requesting for TAP program and they support for all devices except the Blackberry that sucks. I am still on phone with them to find other alternatives unless anyone out there has a suggestion for larger SMS capability and Unlimited Data for BB 8700C?

You might want to read other threads in the same category about the answers to your questions, if you have more information to research.

Sprint has one for $30 a month for e-mail and internet plus $15 a month for unlimited sms, though. Cingular doesn't have a unlimited sms plan, though.

I agree with Sequoias

For Blackberry with unlimited SMS, your best choice will be with Sprint Data 30 a month and Sprint unlimited SMS 15 a month so total will be 45 dollar a month plus tax.

Cingular is suppose to be working on offering TAP to Blackberry device but no timeframe when it will become avaiable or if it will ever be avaiable for Blackberry users and Cingular 30 dollar a month plan includes 5,000 SMS which is plenty for a month for other devices.

Verizon has a pretty good phone its called the eNVY. You could give that a try, verizon does have a try before you buy. Their reception is pretty good here in Puyallup, on the hill and down in the valley. Also, I hear that the eNVY does wifi, bluetooth, email, sms with a qwetry keyboard, and has a pretty good 2 megapixel camera.

I don't need any more suggestions as I already got my Cingular 8525 and I'm happy with it. So thanks for all of your help. :D

btw, I just found out cingular has unlimited sms, mms for only $5 a month.
at&t has 61 million customers worldwide.

For everyones Info: SIM cards are used with carriers that operate on the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) network. The competing network is Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), a technology created by U.S. company Qualcomm. As of fall 2005, CDMA cell phones and CDMA carriers do not support SIM cards in most parts of the world, though this is changing. A CDMA SIM card called the R-UIM (Re-Useable Identification Module) was made available in China in 2002, and will eventually be available worldwide. Expectations for the future include a cell phone market that supports both SIM (GSM) and R-UIM (CDMA) cards by default.

Not just only Cingular or Tmobile or AT&T. You can use ANY GSM in the world. I got unlocked Treo 650 (Cingular) for T-mobile server and too many of my friends thought I spend $50 or more on Cingular server but I don't. I spend $30 on T-mobile.

aren't GSM bit different? I do recall there are two different band - 850 and 900 mhz

Whatever it have qerty keyboards. I just want to have good features that have all that stuff like IM, TEXT, Web Browser ect to get around. Basically, it's always a cellular PDA. BUT I would not want one that have qwerty key onscreen that you can't really type with two thumbs except stylus. Too much work and screen gets dirty and unresponsive..

I keep my open mind on any cellular PDAs. I'm picky on monthly contract plans. I rather to have UNLIMIT use on Data only plan. For text, If you don't really use it much, 300 text would be enuf for me cuz I don't use it often. I have Tmobile sidekick2. It's comfortable to use. Now I'm going for Blackberry. My Tmobile contract was over last year and I'm on month to month basis.
