And what have you done to prevent it?

The world is changing and the wather is getting crazier! So Jeremy and I brought light bulbs that saves 66 percent less energy. And we have always been recycling. Also we looked into appliances that has energy star on it so when we r getting a house..we plan to buy those that has energy star. We are looking into hybird car or a good car that's good for gas. As for heating bill...we are at 68 instead of 72 degrees and have heaters on...and have platic on windows already.

I use flourscent bulbs in where I use the light the most, I recycle, I drive a gas saving car, it's the best I can for now. We don't know what exactly will happen when global warming changes the climate and don't know what the climate will do. It's full of surprise, the Earth that is.

i waste electricy... ONG slaps my head saying "turn off the lights when u're not there"
heh

however i have gas guzzling truck.. i drive them once a while soon i'm done for the winter. using my car all winter long its good gas mileage car.. but my truck is pain-in the ass 11 mpg heh.

i'm trying to change to make earth a healthy one :D

Theres no proof of global warming. If there was global warming why did it get cold in chicago during the baseball playoffs?

I'm not sure about global warming, because I think we still have a lot of research left to do on natural climate cycles before we can conclude for sure that there truly is such a thing. However--I still think being responsible with the environment is a good idea.

I use Energy energy-saving lamp bulbs. It use only 10 volt... but we lit candles before the weather goes dark because we love candles... It´make us feel comfortable & romantic feeling... :)

Umm -- I changed all the bulbs from 100 watts down to 60 watts... that's the only limit my eyes could read in prints. I added the insulations inside the walls, floors and ceilin'. I don't feel really "COLD' just yet. I still feel perfectly fine.

I make sure that I am wearin' "sock" slippers durin' nights to keep my feet warm. Drink some HOT chocolate and relax! Viola ~ :)

Well there is really suggestive possible of global warming because as right now, it is much warmer than normal at the north n south poles! They both are have melted ALOT of ice at much faster rate than it was before we found the first drop of oil! Whats more, there is too many hurricane activity, much more than normal! This year already used ALL of the alphabets available to name for each hurricane. Normally it would ease around P. The hurricane is formed by above temperature in the ocean near Africa. The warmer the ocean surface there is, the more exciting the hurricane will be formed!

There is NO easy way to solve the problem. From my experience since the great oil crisis. The more people try to save, end up uses same or more! For example, back in 1970 when the cars were oil guzzling BIG time. Im talking about majority of cars that gets only 8 miles per gallon. People tend to drive to work, use cars sparingly. So the average was about 8k miles a year back then. Now, with better mileage on cars, guess what the average miles a year? Its more than 12k a year ALREADY! PLUS more people now owns more cars and ended up use them more often! Seriously, the highway is getting more and more congested than before. If your young, you might not noticed them. BUT I DO notice already. Today more frequent traffic jams than it was back in 70s or earlier.

You see why I said there is no easy way to fix, we ALL will always increase the energy every time we try to save!

I am in no position to give up my SUV and 4 wheel drive pu truck!

diehardbiker, my neighbor didn't give up his Van, you know those
van they made in 1970's...

How come they don't make those kind of van anymore
and only create minivans?????

Anyway... so what if 5 years later, everybody don't have SUV anymore
and you be the only one keeping a SUV for very long time, huh?

Oh um... yeah it is true that the Earth is warming, and there is
global warming, but it isn;t our fault that we cause that.
Because there were Ice Age long long long time ago during Cavemen years.
And we ain't responsible for all the Ice that are now melting.

So if North Pole's melt, we can all move up there... since
the Earth will be overpopulated with many many many people in USA anyway. :D

Hey Christians, we can all move to North Pole, and make sure it isn't
the land of the free... make sure it is the LAND of Religion and ban
all wicked people.

It's why Alaska is called "The LAST Frontier." :)
( Will fly there this comin' April in 2006 )

This is NOT going to happen! Would you want to throw away 30 thousand dollars worth of SUV?

SUV were built for several good reasons. Some people who live in snowy climate, live in remote areas where they don't maintain road as well as in city. That is what SUV is for. There are alot places that SUV can go where cars can't!

I am not suggesting that cars is not practical. What I am suggesting is that some people have their own personal needs and requirements. I would despise on those people who live in city and go to work in the city with HUGE SUV like Ford Expeditation, or even worse Hummer. That is way more than they needed. Mine is mid sized SUV, and it fits my needs. I do remodel around the house, and SUV did serve me well, and cars won't be able to serve me well anyway. Plus I work in rural area where there is ALOT of snow, and often last to plow. That is why I need 4x4 to get there and not lose my job.

Now the permafrost in Alaska is melting and that makes houses lean over. Eighty five percent of the land there is permafrost. There are landslides in Canada and slope failures and rock falls in the Alps. :eek2: Forests are being replaced by grasslands, lakes and marshes with corresponding changes in animal life. The forests that collapsed because of the melting are called drunken forests. The land would get converted into thermokarst areas with holes and mounds that would be bad for farming, with holes up to 16 feet deep known. Nothing bad for the Alaska oil pipeline is expected soon, but they could need to do more maintenance. If there is too much melting, the pipeline could collapse. :eek2:
This had "already damaged houses, roads, airports, pipelines, and military installations; required costly road replacements and increased maintenance expenditures for pipelines and other infrastructure; and increased landscape erosion, slope instabilities and landslides." They even abandoned buildings like homes and hospitals. :-o Ice cellars also got thawed and made useless. :( The BBC link has a picture of a building that is all cracked and collapsed. :-o
There could be lots of carbon in the organic stuff that was buried in the permafrost since before the ice age. That could get released in carbon dioxide as the permafrost melts. What is unknown is if there would be enough new life in the warmer Arctic to absorb a lot of that carbon to make their tissues or if there would still be enough left over to make lots of carbon dioxide that would warm the world.
The sea ice is also thinner and covers less area. The open water could lead to more storm surges that could cause eroding and flooding. Some villages by the sea could be abandoned. :(

So I think global warming is bad for Alaska, at least people living there. Alaska went through big changes at the end of the ice age, but there weren't as many people to notice it.

I don't know it when will have a global warming. IMO it may be Ice age would coming back??? Someone told me, it will be in thousand years later. I always has been
tried on the recycling, but we can't get in, sadly we don't want to waste
my money for recycling, that's right? I remember I went to recycling place for acluminium cans like beer, sodas and pop. I'm think so for them are
requiring to pay for a recycling, that's ridiculous. It's $100 :jaw: for size almost them was in huge bag!

I like to use a saving light -- it is called twister light, I have them one is
blue, green, yellow, orange and red. But I soon I will get one for white or
I will find a way of the energy-saving light. Sometimes, I would be concerned with environment, it's better to have add your own plant; recycling; saving energy; get your own hybrid car; or asking your congress,
politicans, representivates that you will tell them about stop pollution, and
stop from global warming for Ice Age might be coming back, it's sucked!
Or maybe you will have a warp for another place that would
want prevent from serious cold, just like "Day after Tomorrow"?
Ha-ha. So I asked to my mom... Oh well. But, I blame the Fox for concepting of this movie, that is not real to
happen, my friend said. :laugh2: That is a rumor gossip?! :gossip: :werd:

Yes, some cases it DO cost more money to recycle than to use "virgin" materials. That is why Recycler isn't any profitable and they sometimes have to charge when they are losing money.

The reality is that for example it takes TWO energies to convert from used can recycling into "New" can, comparing to virgin which takes only one energy to do so. Give you this idea, all aluminum cans needs to be washed and clean out, then shredded into bits like paper shredders this cost energy! They then melted into what we called "Ignot". They then sold to any bottling company to fill their beverage up. The bottle company will need to melt that ignot again! Another energy well spent and mold them into can once again. While virgin, in other word raw just melt right away from the mine and mold them into can. Just used energy once. ALOT savings!
Other cost factor for recycling is that they have to be seperated, often manually. For example to recycle cars, they have to be disassembled and seperate materials into groups like plastic, tin, copper, iron, aluminum, etc etc. Seperating them involves alot labor, and you guessed it! more money for labor! So, it is really alot easier and cheaper just to use "virgin" materials outright.
That is one of reason why I said there is NO easy answer!

I forget to say, [minor :repost: for edit] "Recycling Center" we paid to Recycling center is about $117 for about 200-400 cans was
from Family Reunion at Farm, and my grandma house, it had them to
bring it up to recycling center.
I wish I can afford to it for clean-up on the earth after it when would
recycled. :ugh:

You paid the recycling center 117 bucks for bringing in soda cans? I'm baffled to say the least!

I take my cans to the recycling center 3-4 times a year and I get paid approximately 1.10 (varies) per pound. It takes about 22 12 oz soda cans to make up a pound.......still, I don't understand what your'e saying.....

At my home, we take beverage cans and bottles back to the supermarket and get paid for some of them because New York makes them give back 5 cents for each can. We take the other stuff like newspapers, boxes, glass and food cans to the county recycling center not far from home for free. They charge people to dump trash there to encourage people to recycle. The tickets for dumping trash there are sold at the town hall, a 10 minute drive away.
Three local counties also built an incinerator to burn trash. The ash takes up less space in landfills than the trash would. For some reason, they got in trouble. I think it cost more to take the trash there and then the ash from there to the landfill than just putting the trash into the landfill. Then one county refused to provide space for the ash. And they've not been getting enough trash to burn to pay for the cost of the plant. Trash plant mess

Sounds like waste to energy, they throw in garbage and it makes energy to make electricity. There are a tons of those in Japan, I heard.

We have some MaxLite energy bulbs made in NJ. We try not to buy energy bulbs that made in China.

Some lamps and many printers have a little black box (transformer) to plug to the outlet. This design is to reduce the electricity that meet the light/printer's power. However, it is still receive the electricity when the lamp is off. That's what I hate the most of all for my house. Without that box, it would make a big difference to save our money.

I learned that some scientists are right about underground oil (not tank). The oil that we depend for our heat and produce electricity. Unfortunately, we are not supposed to drain the oil out of the ground. Our Earth's purpose is to rotate its axis in order to be stable in the nature. The less oil that create nature disaster environment which affect variety of climates such as hurricanes, tornados, and land movements (included earthquakes and floods), etc. The main reason is that the presidents of oil factories cannot ban their business because they want to continue making their profits.

Let's pretend that you put some water in a plastic bag and tight up with a rope. You throw the bag in the air, and pull the rope and turn around several times. The bag and you are in the center of gravity. The less amount of water in the plastic bag that will not give you the stable of the rotation. Does this makes sense to you?

How can we produce electricity without oil? Windpower, waterpower, solar cells that might be the best solution for our energy. The problem is that they are not cheap. We still use alternative light blubs which is good, but it is not enough to do everything because we use a washing machine, air conditioners, refrigerators, and we are still paying more money to the electricity companies. Nuclear power is no way. Many silent employees died from cancer who worked for the nuclear power plants.

Also, I believe that any electricity power plants produce too much electricity (especially waste of electricity) because our industrial factories have so much power to run the machines. This made me think that our era machines are still old fashion. We still have that damn little box for our lamps and printers. It is unbelievable!

NOT all of garbages can convert to energy! Can you throw in metals and expect them to burn and convert to energy, eh?
Secondly, there is another problem with burning garbage... guess what it is? SMOKE! that can cause air to screw up! So, back to my point... there is NO such thing as easy answer to the problem we are having.
