My mum just got a phone call for me.
Mum:Hello
Man on phone:Can i speak to ....(me)
Mum:What is it about? She's deaf, she can't speak on the phone
Man: Ok can we send her some stuff in Braille?
Mum:She's deaf not blind

Why do people not think?
Deaf means deaf not blind

thats damn good question.

few people asked me the same questions about if i know how to do brallie.

I know few of brallie, but never was asked for products with brallie.

Maybe there's a blind person with same name as yours?

interesting. i'm totally blind and when i could hear, sighted people used to ask me if i knew sign.

i wonder if it was a jehovah's witness who was calling? many of them seek out people with disabilities. a few years ago i had two jehovah witnesses come to my door offering religious materials in braille as well as an informational video in asl. as it turned out, they knew i was deafblind after getting my name off of a mailing list of some kind.

Years ago, these JW women got to know that this particular house I lived in had deaf people. They started coming around with a 3rd woman who could sign, and also pamplets in Braille. ?!!!? (No offense, but because I'm deaf I should know Braille?) The funny thing is that I was often outside working in the yard when they would stop by, so I'd make a point to step in my garage and put my things away. They can't step into my garage without it becoming a trespassing issue (and they knew it,) so they'd hover right at the garage line and I'd just ignore them forever until they finally walked away. Took them 8-10 years, but they finally got the hang of it ...

Ignorance all I can say.

Braille for the deaf? And signs for the blind?

Geez! Just shows how much people know.

it was just a random guy ringing about junk

they're persistent little buggars, aren't they? the jw's that visited me stopped by every saturday morning for a month before they *finally* got the hint that i wasn't interested.

no kidding. i've also had people insist that i couldn't be blind because i can sign.

I've had people comment on my sharp eyesight and wonder why I need a dog to help me see. I try not to bust out laughing when I tell them Snickers is my hearing dog.

that always make me laugh when they asked me if i need one in braille. one time there was a book store and the assistant handed me a book in braille... i wrote "how come i need a book in braille when i can write just fine here and was able to read what you wrote?" she got all red lol. i know a bit mean but still.. :-D
