I apologize if this is a repost, but thought this is important especially at this time of the year and I would like all of us to take steps to help prevent being attacked or raped.....Lisa aka Peachy Lady

As the holidays approach us and we get caught up in the business of the
season, we must be mindful to continue to be alert and aware of our
surroundings.
STAY SAFE!

A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they
look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:

1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are
most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other
hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with
long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
**********************************************
2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women whose
clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to
cut clothing.
**********************************************
3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their
purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off and can be
easily overpowered.
**********************************************
4) The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is in the
early morning, between 5 and 8:30 a.m.
**********************************************
5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked at is grocery store
parking lots. Number two is office parking lots/garages. Number three is
public restrooms.
**********************************************
6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and
quickly move her to a second location where they don't have to worry about
getting caught.
**********************************************
7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year
sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years.
**********************************************
8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it
only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn't
worth it because it will be time consuming.
**********************************************
9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or other
similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands. Keys are
not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use
them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you're not worth it.
**********************************************
10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is following
behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell,
look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make
general small talk, I can't believe it is so cold out here or we're in for a
bad winter. Now you've seen their face and could identify them in a lineup,
you lose appeal as a target.
**********************************************
11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and
yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they'd
leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would no be afraid to
fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
**********************************************
12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and
carries it with him wherever he goes), yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and
holding it out will be a deterrent.
**********************************************
13) If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can by
outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the
attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper
inner thigh -- HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the
underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she
broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches.
Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it hurts.
**********************************************
14) After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a
particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy's parts it is extremely
painful. You might think that you'll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you
more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a
woman who will not cause a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he's out
of there.
**********************************************
15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and
bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as
possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I
ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked
audibly.
**********************************************
16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your
surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd
behavior, don't dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel a little silly at
the time, but you'd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.

Wow..thanks Lisa!

We women need to be educated over and over. Doesn't matter if we already heard it as it is still good to read tips over and over because sometimes we don't really pay attention or forget to take cautions, especially when we are overstressed or tired.

Wow Peachylady, Thank you so much for sharing this information, sure is very important to be aware of this, my next thing to do list is taking boxing lesson....NOW, who wants to mess with this blonde here??? *barking and growling *....

Thanks Lisa for the information to prevent rape. All Women around the world would appreciated this.:)

^Angel^ I didn't know you bark and growling too?

*giggling*...shhh Cheri, I want those men to know I'm tough!!!! LOL

Ahhh - that's good to hear, Lisa...thank you for sharing. I did get this in email from my uncle. So I had seen this before.

I will share a story with you guys - I work at a well known store chain, and around September, a man came into the store, struck up a conversation with me and another female associate. He was carrying a large black bag, and revealed that inside that bag he had assorted, unlabeled perfumes. He asked me and the other associate if we would be interested in "sniffing" the perfume, and if we were, we couldn't do it in the store. We would have to go with him to his car where he could survey us properly.

I'm thinking, YEAH, RIGHT. This isn't perfume...it's probably a knock-out chemical of some sort, where he'll proceed in dragging us both into his car and doing god knows what to us. I had seen something similar to this in one of the forwarded emails that are circulated throughout the 'net. Never really thought about it, but I'm afraid to admit that it is true...this is probably not the same guy they wrote about in the email...probably someone who thought it was neat and decided to be a copycat. Who knows???

I'll add a few tips to this of my own. I had an "experience" in college, and I've learned to take certain precautions.

I work two jobs. The one mentioned above is not too bad. Parking lot is well lit, and it's still busy when I leave at night - so I'm not too worried about that one. However - my other job, I sometimes leave as late as 12:30-1am. The entrance to that warehouse is up an alley. I always, ALWAYS carry pepper spray with me. My husband gave me instructions on how to use it and when - I just hope that I don't spray one of my co-workers accidentally because the lighting is so poor. That would suck and I'd be fired. LOL.

So if you are in a poorly lit area, arm yourself somehow. :) Also, if you can, walk with someone. Be careful...and be prepared for anything.

Get a gun! That will prevent rape. Cause you know the cops dont really protect you. Like this guy bernard goetz who shot 3 men on a NYC subway because they were trying to rob him. He replyed to the papers well if the police were doing their jobs like they were supposed to instead of walking down the street see who did`nt feed the parking meters,Sitting around a street corner trapping speeders and red light volaters this wouldnt happend.

Whatever happend in the old days when cops really did protect you? Ill tell you why those days are gone. Its liberalism. In the good old days the law protected the innocent nowadays it frees the guilty because of crooked lawyers and police corruption we have now.Lets face it criminals are more afraid of you then they are at the police. In fact criminals laugh when police arrest them cause they know the lawyers will get em off the hook .The message is clear,If cops wont do their jobs we`ll do it for them. And i do have a GUN in my car loaded. If any snake trys to rob me theyre gonna get it. I suggest you watch two movies related to this. Ones called "Death Wish" by charles bronson another one is called "Eye for an Eye" (1996) played by sally field.Get a gun ladies it will save ya a whole lot of agony. And,This is my gun.

Me too. Im even too afraid to touch one. Never touched one and never will.

I guess it is time for me to brush up my karate skills, eh?

With all due respect, a gun is not going to help. Someone who has intentions to rape another is not going to stop and ask you if you have a gun before they jump you from behind. They just do what comes naturally to them and overpower another. You may be lucky enough to get away, but you also may not. I know, it's easy to walk around with your hand in your pocket or purse, with your finger on the trigger. You can keep telling yourself that should anyone try getting fresh with you, you could always shoot them, right?

Well I'm sorry but you're wrong. First off, you would not be able to react as quickly as you'd like...also, if you WERE able to fight off a potential attacker, and you fired off a shot, you would end up in more trouble than you ever intended to be. Secondly, if you're seen walking around with even a handgun, even if it's "for safety," you're likely to be arrested for having it on you.

Think about this, too. If you WERE attacked and you injured or killed someone with a gun, it would be your word against his or hers. If he or she survived your gunshot wound, he/she would only say "I was just trying to get their attention, I wasn't going to hurt him/her!" The fact that you're hard of hearing or deaf would give the jury sympathy for the would-be assailant, and you're shit out of luck...ESPECIALLY if this is a person with no prior arrest record and there is no physical evidence of a crime committed. You know how the law is...Keep in mind too, a gun can also be used against you. It can very well be taken from you and the bullet fired can be lodged into YOUR own head.

Anyway, at any rate...guns won't do anything. When you're attacked, you freeze. Trust me, I KNOW.

You need something quicker and easier to manage. Pepper spray works. Guns will only get you in trouble and create more problems. If you insist on having one, keep it at home under lock and key.

Well police cheifs and sergents wont fire officers for not doing their jobs. My boss is tough! If he sees youre not doing your job its out the door you go. He`ll ask you questions well how come you didnt get to theater 9? Or how come youre not serving customers when youre out the back room drinking your soda?
If police cheifs and sergents start asking questions to the officers how come you werent there in the parking lot when that woman was attacked? They wont point any finger at the officer when something happend unlike my boss does. When a crime happens they have to take the blame. Just like during the JFK assassination one agent was fired because he wasnt with the president. 2 agents were fired when reagan got shot. So if secret service agents gotta take the licks when something happens to the president so should police officers.

I hate to say this, ladies, but be on your guard....not THIS season, but at all times.
Rape is a crime of violence, it is a guy's way of telling a lady, Hey, I got you now, I beat you and I can do anything I like with you.
Pretty sick, but you would be surprised to know how much sickness is around, or should you be?
Sighhhhh...
The skinniest guy can beat a buff lady at wrestling, take my word for it...That is my counter to all the arguments that say the lady did not fight hard enough...
No karate skills will be enough in an average rape attack, because the person who rapes you will be someone you know, and you will hesitate before deciding to defend, and by then it is too late...
And a gun is just a cock, a steel penis...
And the way we look at this is just so ficked up it is unbelieveable...

Sure sucks being a lady these days

LOL ^Angel^ now you got me scared of you. ;) JK.. I despise it when people take advantage of others sexually... oh yeah, it would be great learning some karate or judo or aikido or whatever it takes to get those scumbags off our back in the most legal way possible. A swift and hard kick to the groin will suffice for me, I believe. :) Watch out, ravensteve! *teasing*

Oh, that is dangerous. Can you get a co-worker or security to escort you to your car at night?

I agree with his post.

I often feel disgust with the way men did with women like rape. It is ridiculous and stupid. I agree with others that gun itself is not enough. Have the security or staff to escort any women to the car is the best solution to this rape situation. In two years ago, I worked on grave shift, women often asked me to escort them to their cars when they are finishing with their works. For me, it was nice to break from working and walk & talk with them to their cars. I did it for one year before they change my shift to the first shift.

One woman did took my suggestion when they changed my shift to the first shift. I told her to buy the highest electricity taser that she can find in the stores or e-stores, and walk with a taser in one of her hands to her car when her shift is finish. I also told her to not carry the purse on her shoulder, carry it with a free hand so that she can drop it off when someone is attacking and use a taser on attacker. Women tend to put them on the burden with the purse during attack or under the stress. Seem that woman feels comfortable with my suggestion and did that ever since I left the grave shift. But still, having the security or the staff to escort you is the best solution to this situation.

Yes, and I do. I also park my car in the alley, two feet from the entrance. I carry my pepper spray WITH me until I am locked in the driver's seat. I'm extremely careful.

Thanks :)

:gpost: Malfy! I agree with you completely, and couldn't have said it any better! The same can also be said about knives.

The truth of the matter is this ... In this world we live in, there is just NO SUCH thing as a full proof way to protect oneself, and you can't just rely on ONE thing to do it. You have to be able to anticipate everything and everyone, and unfortunately, you can't do that with every single situation that comes at you. It's just impossible. You just have to do the best you can with what you have to work with, and hope for the best. It's all any of us can do, unfortunately. If someone is hell bent on doing harm, he will do it. That's life, unfortunately!

You know, some people are immune to pepper spray, I know one man who aren't affect by pepper spray, as he said, it is just like 'bitter water' to him.
