I went to a public high school, not a deaf school. I was only one to enter that school. There was no mainstreamed at my school at the time, even no terps. I remember it was difficult for me because I have to read the teachers lips all day in the class... and I also had to stay after school if I don't understand. I went to summer school twice (8th and 10th grade and so, I can graduate early. I graduated from H.S. at the age of 18). I didn't learn ASL until I went to RIT to take some ASL courses there. And also, I have some hearing and deaf friends around here.
