Transgender student makes history on prom night

Why do you feel the need to answer for other people? I wasn't the only one who was not clear on the posters intent.

Why do you feel the need to ruin every thread with your childish nonsense? Get over yourself.

Ah, so now you have a link. Why didn't you cite in the original post?

African Americans are still a minority. Pshaw.
Next there will be a survey among Atlantean Black Americans.

You know, as a whole, the African American culture is not very accepting of homosexuality or transgender. My hypothesis is that they don't want their children to experience that double whammy, not so much that they are disapproving in general.

Yeah, I love it that the parents were so supportive.

I didn't think intolerance usually worked on that level. I thought intolerance was generally something that was either learned and internalized by example (in which case there's no "reason" it's simply "my tribe says gays are bad, I want to be a part of my tribe, so gays must be bad") rather than caused by any rational or even conscious thought process (such as "I don't want them to face further marginalization").

I'm still shocked, because tolerant is not the same thing as embracing and looking up to. You may tollerate a guy who's got a sex change, but chances are you wouldn't want to have steamy sex with him, or call him your prom queen?

If "he" got a sex change, then the appropriate term would be "she", and post-op she's (mostly, there might be a few differences that you'd likely be unable to tell) female with all the female bits, so there's no general reason to specifically avoid her unless you're prejudiced against transgendered men and women.

Yes, it does work like that. Perhaps not in all cases, but certainly a strong possibility in this one. In depth study of a marginalized population's cultural practices and the etiology of those practices would make it clear.

Now there's a racist statement.

But I will have to agree...they are intolerant of racists. Perhaps that is why you picked up on that.

 70% seems pretty interant to me....

When you use a source other than your own knowledge, danged straight it is.

 Riiiiiiight

BTW your trolling and obsessive behavior have steered you away from your own topic. This started because I gave another example of what DD said.

*shrug* thought it was common knowledge....

Common knowledge of what? That you plagiarize?

Stating a fact is plagerism now?

I am guilty of doing this as well. How can one support their views on the forum without offering supporting links? My methods are 90% personal opinions, with 10% of my offerings via links, news articles, etc. I shoot from the hip, with my comments based on things I have read and seen. I prefer to keep it that way. Not big on Googling for support.

One more comment before I go, and there are no links or charts to support this; I think both of you are excellent people with a lot to offer AD, but this particular "Itchy and Scratchy" theme that often occurs between you is not your finest contribution. :sadwave:

Hmm.. which one is which? I say Jillio is Itchy, the mouse. (Because she's small, not because she has itchy places on her body...)
