I will be starting what I call my "nightmare schedule" today. I will have 3 courses this fall, spread out over Tues, Wed and Thurs. I work 3rd shift. When I get home in the morning, instead of usually sleeping, I will be required to stay awake for most if not all of the day.

Anyone have any advice on how to stay awake, besides the usual coffee/caffeinated drinks, eating energy foods, etc?

All I know is that it's going to be very difficult to balance this schedule. I'm looking at the possibility of taking small naps throughout the day, possibly right after class each day.

This isn't the first time I've done classes and full-time work. The last time I did it, I worked 1st shift and it seemed easier that way.

First off, I would NEVER recommend forcing yourself to stay awake. If you must, though... when I study (I'm in college, too), I always move. Walk up and down the hallway with the book or study materials in hand.

I can go sleepless with no effort (though it gets worse later on :) ), but if it becomes difficult here is the tip: Do things in a way not related to sleeping in your life. For example if you sometimes fall a sleep on couch, do not read there. If you sleep in PJ's , change your clothes to shirt and pants at night. If you take a shower when you wake up, take one when it gets very sleeply after midnight. If you watch Tv before going to bed in a normal day, replace it something else you do when you wake up.

Its human mind, if you give it to the pattern its used to, it will try going there :) Change the pattern.

P.s: Dont cut off sleeping too fast for too long, a body which is not used to it will start feeling negative effects of it. Its not healthy if you go like that long term.

Good Luck

staying awake? just down one red bull after another.

if you want to stay awake for days then just get yourself a very rewarding meth habit.

Or maybe just buy an antfarm--a fire ant farm. When you get tired, shake up the container and pour it all over you.

lather, rinse, repeat.

How about Thera-Gesic cream on your gential - this should help keep you awaken the whole time.

and maybe a mini cactus necklace, so when youre nodding off, laying your head down isnt a great idea after all.

Brad, just need try ask to boss to change the schedule or cut hours at job to make enough to sleep or little spare time.

Being awake all day isn't good for you, I had done like that before in and it's so pain, just cause bad migraine after sent all day on computer and work overnight.

Try Venom, the new energy drinking. It's so sweet and so strong. Suggest to eat plenty bread before you drink.

Take no doz and coffee, preferably strong.

No Doz doesn't work a crap (at least for me). Take expresso shots coffee (warning - excessive urination, cramped abdominal discomfort, and constipation) but hey - if you gotta, then you gotta!

I envy my friend who is very sensitive to caffeine. So sensitive that even half of Red Bull was enough to keep her jittery and awake for a whole night. I had to down at least 2-3 cans of Red Bull to at least feel something. This sucks because it ain't cheap! :mad2:

Thanks god all-nighter and college life is OVER for me.
