Since I am sick and all, I couldn't sleep. I decided to kill the time by surfing random and got the email from my mother recently. This is fascinating

The Year is 1904

Maybe this will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1904 .. one hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the US statistics for 1904:

The average life expectancy in the US was 47 years.

Only 14% of the homes in the US had a bathtub.

Only 8%of the homes had a telephone.

A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost $11.00

There were only 8,000 cars in the US, and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.

The average wage in the US was 22 cents an hour.

The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year.

A veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year.

A mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births in the US took place at home.

Ninety % of all US physicians had no college education. Instead, they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard."

Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.

Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason.

The five leading causes of death in the US were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.

The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was 30!

Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented.

There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day..

Two of 10 US adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 % of all Americans had graduated high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." (Shocking!)

Eighteen percent of households in the US had at least one full-time servant or domestic.

There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire US

And I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you in a matter of seconds! Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years .. it staggers the mind.

o_O that boogled my mind for sure!!

So much has changed in the last 100 years!

Heroin? Clears complexion and helps the bowel and buoyancy to the mind? Huh? Why isn't that allowed in small and safe amounts then if it's that good?

I did an interview for my grandpa. He's in his 90 and can remember the costs of things and places during that time lol.

Did you know that lemon was used as a deodorant?

Women carried flowers for wedding to mask odors on themselves? Maybe that's the invention of the bride carrying flowers--I don't know for sure on this one.

Grandma said, she only washed her hair once a month. Brush her teeth once a week. Use the cloth rag for her period not using the pad. They have to wash the rag by hand. Can you image it? They would not allow women who had their period to go out. They have to stay home and rest. Never let other males when females had their period due to ashame.

They can't annouce when their daughters who were 16 yrs old pregnancy. Their daughters had to be staying in the house because they weren't married. They forbid to having sex before marriage !!

They never used terms like lesbians, gay, F*k or other fouel languages. My grandmother was extremely upset when she heard from the living room while she was in the kitchen to cook. She approached us, why did you watch that movie " The Nuns" with fouel languages. She asked me what is lesbian ?? I said, two women love each other, they do live together and get married. She think, this society is pathetic !! My grandmother said, God made the birds robin and blue jay, they do not mate each other.

God make male and female for purpose to have the children. I said, well the time is changed. My grandmother was unacceptable to hear the news, newspaper, movie, etc... She can't wait to going to the heaven. She is feeling very bad for her great-grandchildren go through this horrible society. :(

I wonder if it was shame that kept the women home, or the fact that it was just way too inconvenient to go out while having a period. Just think, no convenient bathrooms, no disposable sanitary products, etc. Ugh! No, I think I would prefer to stay home back then, too! ;)

Most of Americans at that time were farmers and ranchers so they didn't think they need to be educated or to stay clean! The educated ones lived in the cities except the ones who worked in the factories doing hard labor and long hours.

MN State Capitol was nearing completion of building third capitol building (first was destroyed by fire, and 2nd was getting overcowded due to MN's booming population).... Capitol opened on Jan 5, 1905......

I'm surprised that those 1904 things were cheap or haven't invented yet like words such as foul language, and I was surprised that drugs was legal back then.

Natural drugs has been always legal for many thousand years... No need to illegalize these really... Until cotton and medical industries illegalized these drugs because they know that these natural drugs will heal and block the pains 50 times better than their man-made drugs and cheap to grow. Cotton and medical industries know that they will lose their profit-making drugs if these natural drugs are still legal so therefore they whined at government constantly until that time, they finally got the retarded government to illegalized these natural drugs.

Hemp is quite stronger, long-term and so easy to grow (Hemp can grow in virtually anywhere included desert) compare to cotton... you know the result.

man thats SO intresting imagine one thing my grandparents would be in thier 90s in 8 yrs! and i wonder what thier lives were like cuz it was RIGHT before the 1920s depression.

I bet a pro baseball player only made $1000 a year.
Like these players.

Do you think that people would use drugs less abusively if it were legal?

What about those that abuse it? They look strange when they do so. An example for you all that know is Anna-Nicole Smith. I had 2 people in real life act stupid. Looks like they were on pot or something.

To answer your question. Yes. Holland legalized the marjiuana a while ago and marjiuana abusive & problem rate is very minimal. Thus proved that people would use drugs less abusively if it is legalize. After all, Holland are very well-structured society and people in there are highly educated. In other words, they already were teached by governments, educations or their parents about responsibilities.

Pray tell, why does these old civilizations don't have these problems? Because they simply does not see the needs for them to abuse on natural drugs. You have to remember that whoever smokes or uses these drugs nowaday is NOT natural. They added some chemcials as such thing as borax, bleached cocanie, crack, etc etc.. to boost the stimulation chemicals in marjiuana or any drugs.

Many, many years ago, Native Americans smoke the marjiuana time to time during bonfires, dancing, etc.. Does they have any drug addict problems? The answer is plainly no. I will say that again... Cotton & Drugs industries illegalized these natural drugs because they will lose their profit-making drugs if these natural drugs still are legal. Simple as that.

These so-called problems are myth and already proved in many studies that conducted by different countries included Sweden, Holland, Germany, etc. Ironically, simple drug like.. aspirin will kill you faster than marjiuana or even cocanie if you are using the aspirin as much as you smoke marijuana. Now what's safe excatly? Natural drugs :)

Edit: There are plenty researches by different government agencies & industries trying to prove that marjiuana is dangerous substance and they cannot find any death(s) that related to marjiuana. Historically, there are no death that related to marjiuana while there are thousand and million of deaths that related to alcohol yet alcohol is legalize and can buy from any stores. Go figure.

I realize that this post may will lead to offtopic, we can always make a new topic for this 'drugs' debate.

HENRY%20FORD-(1863-1947)-01.jpg

since 4 years later he would introduce this in 1908:

Thus causing cars and roads to multiply like rabbits and still never end 100 years later!
