This question is burning as bad as it pissed me right off, because my relatives had been raped for some time ago.

So, do you think whether its good or bad to use the hurtful word "rape" as a fun, cool slang? YES OR NO?

Thank you.

Rape can also be referred to the refuse of grapes that are left after the juice is extracted. Also, it has a few different meaings...

For example, to plunder. Which would be referred to several websites being "raped". Therefore, you are misinterpreting it. It's an old word, and not a slang.

You could see somebody saying, "My house was raped last night" meaning that his house was robbed. Hope you understand, and please don't mistake it for the meaning of forcing a person to submit sex acts at all of the times.

I understand what you're trying pinpoint this issue, but as for people who have had bad experience wouldn't like to see the word 'rape' at all and it can be extremely sensitive to them especially for me and my family.

That shows people have misused the word 'rape' like robbed, etc.

If you or your family have been raped you're change your mind. Just like people love guns and suddenly they killed somebody and it changed their mind on guns for the rest of their lives (I love guns myself and never killed anyone before, but I can imagine that will impact my life as well).

Thanks for your information. Appreciate it!

If you're sick of it - why bother and leave a message?!

Who the fuck cares??? I was raped too a looooong time ago!! Do you see me cringe at the word: rape? Nooooo!

Duh, rape is not only about sexual violation, but has other meanings. Check your dictionary, or better yet, I'll bring the dictionary to you:

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=raped said:
noun - rape
1. The crime of forcing another person to submit to sex acts, especially sexual intercourse.
2. The act of seizing and carrying off by force; abduction.
3. Abusive or improper treatment; violation: a rape of justice.

verb - raped, rap·ing, rapes
1. To force (another person) to submit to sex acts, especially sexual intercourse; commit rape on.
2. To seize and carry off by force.
3. To plunder or pillage.

Dang. I have not heard anyone using the word "raped" for a loss of something, whether through robbery or illicit means.
"I was raped of my wallet last night." Huh?
There are words in the dictionary that are not used much any more, let's be realistic. We do not use the "N" word any more.
Let's not be niggardly about it.
Jeez.

There are people in my family who has been physically raped. I imagine most families has some people who has been sexually assaulted in a way or more. I can understand where you're coming from. The word, rape can be upsetting to a person due to a bad experience. But you have to understand that no words can be banned from either the USA or Canada. It is a fact that the word, rape has more than one meaning which is why we have been referring to a rape as a sexual assault instead more often to prevent confusion.

It's the same with guns, and it seem like you understand the logic of how people would get upset over a certain word. A word can flood a person's mind with bad memories, but we also have to learn self-control and move on. Easier said than done, I know. It's not easy to say it either.

But I do understand your concern, but there's really you can do about it except letting people know of your concerns. Sorry.

Uneducated?! Don't waste your time giving me more than one definition of rape. I know all of those definitions and you missed whole point here. Im talking about the MOST RECENT experience I've ever approached and that makes me pissed, but as for you Im sorry that happened to you long time ago. I understood your frustration as I am now. When I see this word (YOU KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT - IM NOT TALKING ABOUT BEING ROBBED OR ELSE!) 'rape' brings up flash backs or my relatives.

Please have a opened mind and understand what Im going through.

I agree, but it can be distracting though...thanks for understanding.

I don't often hear it as slang. There are only 2 things I've ever heard it used for...sexual assault...and being ripped off. 'I took my car to the mechanic and frickin' raped me....900 dollars for tires'. Something along those lines.

So, do you think whether its good or bad to use the hurtful word "rape" as a fun, cool slang? YES OR NO?

No it is not good to use that word :rape: and I don't see it as a matter of fun or cool slang. Because, Rape is serious as sex without power.

Dang. I have not heard anyone using the word "raped" for a loss of something

Indeed, I use the word much as "ripped off" or "robbed." :D

I dont really think that "rape" is really often used as a slang these days though just today most people refer that word "rape" as an sexual assault.

Of course, years ago "rape" didn't really mean anything like sexual assault until like today it does. I guess it's because the rape crimes were increasing these days. *sigh*

so yeah "rape" is a very serious word to use and it's not actually that funny to use it as a slang or whatever like that...but sometimes people use that word as a different meaning or whatever like that...

for example, a certain person showed me a nasty picture of a baby being circumized and I went "thanks for raping my mind!!" because that picture was digusting and that I would get nightmares of that stuff lol...so "rape" isn't always refered to sexual assault but most of the time it is anyway.

like Banjo said, there's nothing you can do about it unless you just let the people know you are concered about that word and they should be alittle more specific though.

Banjo, that make strongly sense what the specific instance you told this.. because between "robbed" and "raped" I NEVER have thought that till along you got it is good point!! have nice christmax!

Slang is often used for humor or irreverence in place of a standard term.
Grapes that have been raped.
A town that has been raped.
A girl that has been raped.
A mind that has been raped.
these are not examples of Slang. These are example of the correct use of the word.

"n*gger" was used in a hurtful manner, to insult an entire group of individuals based on race.

"Retarded" is used with a negative connotation, to insult someone. Mocking individuals who are physically and mentally retarded.

"Cool" ... "Oh, that's 'cool'". Does not mean something is cold.

The value and seriousness of the word Rape has not been lost when used correctly.

However, if someone used the sentence:
"I feel Great! I feel Wonderful! I feel Raped!"
you are robbing the word of it's value and seriousness.

Many of my friends who are Black, do this with the word "n*gger"
"What's up my Nigga!?" is a phrase used to remove the words power, by the group that it was used against. It is a word that will never cross my lips except in technical discussions of launguage, such as this one. For I am ashamed, that the human species would be divided over such a simple thing as skin pigmentation.

Words are ways of expressing and evoking feelings. They can hurt.
Should we be careful about hurting others feelings? Yes.
Should we be super picky over every little word? No.

[added after post] - It has just come to my attention that it will not even let me spell the "N" word.
Censorship is a whole other issue I won't get into.

I dunno if its good or bad but to be honest I've heard ' rape ' being used for sexual assault that's it...

And for the others who used it for another example then it might be best to explain the person what you mean by using that word ' rape ' , maybe that could help without any misunderstanding being involved or thinking otherwise.....Just my personal opinion

Actually, you're allowed to say "nigga"... but not with the "r" at the end. However, the sad thing is... many members here take "nigga" the wrong way and look at it as the word with "r" at the end. We used to have an emoticon/smilie saying "My Nigga!" that others use when saying "That's My Man!" or "You're Da Man!" Sadly, it was removed. :(

Most of my friends, who are black, would take offense to someone white using the word "nigga". They tollerate me using it since I am the only white guy within the group, and any of our racial joking is meant with no disrespect to race at all. That stuff is kept strickly within that context of friendship.

It often comes down to context. And there is no context in which I would use the word "n*gger" other than in a debate over technical meaning.
