The slang "..raped.." - GOOD? BAD?

I agree with you as what you said above about using the word nigg**, that is something I wouldn't say and wouldn't dare use that word, cause once I do, black people would think I meant it as a racial, insult or being against them...Anyone could take that word in the wrong way such as taking the word ' rape ' in the wrong way too....

Sometimes we DO have to be careful when we use words that may offense others....

Got to be fair cause it goes both way in everything, some people see is differently and some don't....but that doesn't mean they're taken it personal or not seeing it the way some of you do.....
 
I agree that we have to be fair, but, if I may I will disagree with you in one respect.

The word "N*gger" is meant for harm. It is not a word you can use correctly in a positive context. "N*gger" in essence is racist.
Some will argue that the deffinition is "ignorant person"
However, it is derived from the word Negro (which is no longer used for classification scientifically), and originally meant any black individual.
It was a derogatory name used for slaves. That is the deffinition you will find in most dictionaries.

"N*gger" is a noun, and is used as a (derogatory) label or name for an individual, or group of individuals.

"Rape" in the terms we are talking about is a verb. An action that takes place. Although I understand that the word itself may trigger serious emotions, it is not meant for harm, and no example has been provided that would demonstrate such.

Black people do not take "n*gger" in the wrong way.
At present time, there has been no examples of a context in which the word "Rape" could be taken the wrong way.
 
I understand but sometimes we DO have to look at from their view also, not everyone will think ' rape ' mean no harm but to them it does in someway, maybe they do not want to hear the word " rape " because it bring back memories of what had happened to them.... :dunno:

Like I said before, have to be caution when using words that may offense others even they mean no harm to them, but got to be fair on both views on this, cause not everyone thinks alike....

For example: if you use the word ' rape ' in whatever subject it may be, then you could add, ' oh I don't mean it that way as you think ' maybe that could help from misunderstanding what this person really mean by using the word ' rape '....just thought I would add that ;)

Here's an example of a line I don't think offends and I have used it many times: "Every month we go thru the rape of our wallets, courtesy of the utility company".....something like that.
 
I think this is an issue that no one cares about until ONE person jumps in and makes a big deal out of it. It should have never been brought up in the first place. :roll:

I am the person who used the word "raped" in that way. I have been using it like that for years. It's a word that the AllDeaf community has used a lot as well. No one said a thing until one person jumped in on my mistake and made a big deal out of it. Now, everyone's jumping on me because I was wrong to use that word.
 
Nah, Vamps, I wouldn't worry about it in the close confines of this forum; most of the world knows better. But since we are here, I think the use of that word calls for common sense. I use the word in different situations but I am not stupid enough to use it, for example, in a rape counselling session. LOL!

Since this thread was created the day before Christmas eve, I have not seen any other thread that you used the word ' rape ' in, must have missed it, but the point is, no one is really jumping on you for doing so, cause I was the one who had no idea where this was coming from, beside the person who created this thread wasn't really pointed it at you , if so, he/she would have used your name as pointing directly at ya....

And I am not saying you were wrong for using that word, I am just being honest that some people might feel offened by it, that is all to it!

I hope this clear things up!

Another thing, is that why this person who created this thread is banned for this reason?, I hope not :ugh:

Actually, this person was already warned about his actions... so he stopped and created another name as if he was a whole new person. Therefore, he's abusing his priviledges here in AllDeaf.
