The most dangerous job you ever took?

I don't have one either and walmart doesn't care about work safety so managers don't give a damn about OSHA so they expect you to work off your ass as they can.

Oh really, I don't know if it was illegal.

Its not illegal. Companies like to give their own license out for insurance purposes.

It is. I've been to orientations and I have been paying attention.

"You are not allowed to drive a forklift without training and a forklift license". It is all over in warehouse/store room rules or even in big box stores that need forklift to reach up high asiles like Costco, Sams Club in the public area.

Thats called "company policy". And if you're going against them, its called "breaking the company's rules." It will never be something you will be arrested over.

Easier way to look at it is...

If I bought my own forklift, where do I go for a license?

Forklift license from where? I never saw that in the Department of Motor Vehicles anywhere.

Worked part time as a janitor 27 years ago at the jail. Quit the day when two groups of inmates was passing by each other under guard escort, when all of a sudden one of the inmates shanked a child molester to death.

They wouldn't let me out until the SERT team got control of the ragin' inmate stabbing the CM over and over again. Blood was everywhere and I was in no condition to even want to mop that up.

Jail Commander took one look at me and knew I've had it. I worked there for nearly a year dealing with all kinds of crap from these inmates. That day took the cake.

He mailed me my last paycheck. To this day I've never set foot in that place ever again and you can't make me.

I was 19 years old at the time.

Why exactly was it necessary to identify the victim as a "child molester"? What was the crime of the perpetrator? You didn't bother to mention that.

However, I doubt as in the positon of janitor, you were privy to the legal status of the inmates. You rely on gossip only.

Anyone can go online look up inmates and find out what they are in jail for. Even though most prisons and jail ask employees not to do that, since it is a conflict of interest.

It happened 27 years ago...so no "online" back then. :)

regardless on how you access it. It was and is still public record. :)

Thanks for reminding me how new technology is though. Seems like we had internet forever. :giggle:

Not at the time he stated this occurred.

And working in some capacities in a jail or a prison can be dangerous. Janitor is not at the top of the list.

most likely it was on the news after the guy was dead.

No doubt. Wonder what the guy that stabbed him was in jail for? Wonder how many years were added to his original sentence? Wonder if he was charged with first degree murder following the stabbing, or a lesser offense? Was he left in the general population, or was he segregated after the attack?

I would appear, in an assessment of dangerousness, the guy who attacked without provocation was the more dangerous. And, since he had a specific target, he was dangerous only to the one he was targeting, not the staff. And janitors are not responsible for intervening in the case of violence between inmates, so that significantly reduces the risk of danger even more.

Could be.

Only way to find out.. is to ask Yizman how he knew the guy was a "child molester"

I was just pointing out that they're ways to find out about inmates.

Public records.

I did. You answered.

My most dangerous job is that I worked aboard the fishing vessel and we had to go out to sea where we had to face rough seas and bad weather.

- I had to be on watch from midnight to 2 a.m. when the vessel was anchored around the bay. I had to make sure that the boat stayed away from the rocky shoreline by checking on radar every 15 minutes.

- We often saw our vessel being hit by rough waves as we kept sailing to find some fishing spots.

- I had to be aboard a small tugboat which was used to pull rope which hold herrings and mackerals inside the net from the bottom.

- Sometimes we had to get up at 1 a.m. for fishing activity.

- We had to carry very heavy boxes of fish scales from the deck up to the wharf. The boxes were only 3W x 2H x2L but the fish scales which were used to convert into nail polish, were soooooo heavy. Two guys had to lift them up.

- Sometimes we had to worry about the uncharted rocks, reefs and shoals when we sailed around.

- And so on...
