The Magic Kingdom is about to get a little more magical for some people.

Disney has announced that for the first time ever, alcohol will be served inside the theme park, according to HLN affiliate News 13 in Orlando.

The company announced Thursday on its Disney Parks Blog that the Be Our Guest restaurant -- located in Fantasyland at the base of the mountain below Beast castle -- will serve beer and wine to complement its "French-inspired" cuisine.

While alcohol is served at other Disney parks (like Epcot) and resorts, the Magic Kingdom has been dry to this point.

Some commenters on the blog are none too happy about the development. "I am very disappointed alcohol will be served in the Magic Kingdom park," says Michael, in a comment echoed by several other posters.

Nonetheless, the news is sure to thrill many who see having a glass of wine or beer as a natural accompaniment to a nice meal -- or even just a good way to take the edge off a long day at the park with hyped-up kids.

What do you think? Will the availability of alcohol in the Magic Kingdom have any affect on your vacation planning? Is this a bad idea, or something that should have happened long ago? Let us know in the comments below.

Noooooooo!!!!

Booze is great, but aw c'mon, I wish they'd keep the Magic Kingdom the way Walt Disney wanted it to be. Just jump the monorail over to Epcot and have drinks galore!

I do have to admit that in Tony's Italian restaurant in the Magic Kingdom (the one styled from Lady and the Tramp), it was at first weird to not be able to have wine with pasta. It's traditional for my family, but it was not biggie. It just felt wrong lol. But I still like the idea of MK being alcohol-free, just because Walt Disney planned it that way.

The alcoholic beverages will only serve with meal at restaurants so that's not concern.

I think it's a bad idea for 2 reasons:

1. Tarnishes the Disney image and makes you wonder what is next? Strip clubs where Snow White is really naughty?

2. More potential for situations getting out of control. It wouldn't look good to see a news report, "Riot breaks out at Magic Kingdom" due to excessive drinking.

If Disney really wants to get in the alcohol business it would be a better move to set up bars and resorts near the magic kingdom under a different name such as "Le Good Times" that way after a long day with the kids the parents can chill out.

I'm disappointed in Disney's decision to serve alcohol in the family theme park.

What?! Missed out on Pleasure Island, huh? LOL

BTW, the International Pavilions at EPCOT serve booze of all sorts too.

Disney already has tons of places to have alcohol, like in every single hotel restaurant on Disney property, in the other parks (Epcot, Studios, Animal Kingdom, the two water parks, Wide World of Sports park and Downtown Disney where alcohol is very popular. lol That's why they should stick to having the "family park" (Magic Kingdom) stay the way it is.

Alcohol is what killed Astroworld-Six Flags in Houston. It caused so much trouble (i.e. fighting) that people stayed away and, of course, the reduced attendance led to closing. The park did not help itself by allowing people to re-enter the park after going to their cars where there were coolers of alcohol.

When bad people happen to good beer... :roll

I hope that this is not a desperate measure to woo people to come in time of bad economy. Trust me, there are a lot of people who are still looking for family atmosphere not college atmosphere. This is an amusement park, not a fraternity!!! If you want a drink or 2, cool, but if you want to pass out, find a party house by college campus.

I think it is local problem and Six Flags has really terrible management, even they filed for bankruptcy and several theme parks closed.

Disney World is different and they are well managed. I never see any drunk people in this theme park, unlike in downtown or public street. If you approach to be drunk so you will thrown out of theme park.

Who say theme park is college atmosphere? The theme park is just for everyone to have a fun.

In college, the majority of freshmen are under 21 and they are forbidden to drink, even there are upperclassmen that under 21, especially when you admitted to college at 17 years old or 18 years old.

It is common for resturarnats to serve alocholic beverages with meal, that's not concern for me.

I live on a college campus (my husband is a professor). Believe me - the drinking age has no relevance here.... College students go crazy every Thursday-Sunday, drinking excessively! The police in our town do everything they can to curb the behavior - but it hasn't worked in the 25 years I have been here!

Why can't these people leave the Kiddies alone?.....It makes me angry. Kids are Kids, they don't need alcohol around for them to have a good time, and their parents drinking around them?...No way!

Underage drinking is illegal and if law enforcement officers find out so they will subject to arrest or consequence, especially in here.

It is just like speeding and run the red light stop are illegal but people go ahead to break the law, so they should understand about having a consequence.

In most colleges, the freshmen dorms are usually dry or substance free, it means alcoholic beverages are forbidden. Some college dorms have limit on number of people can come in room, usually limit to 4 people per resident. If limit exceed to those so resident advisors see specified room as suspicious and they call university police to have room searched.

Off-campus - it is up to landlord or neighbors.

Drinking excessively is just dumb and that show they have lack of drink responsibly. The moderation in alcoholic beverages are fine and I don't see alcoholic beverages as symbol of college, IMO.

It look like I'm in different shoe.

My parent do drinking when I was kid, usually at restaurants and at home. I think it is usual for parent to drinking at front of their children.

In Italy we had wine on the table every night. As far as I can remember, no one drank like drunks. The kids were used to seeing our parents drink wine every night with meal.

Still, since the Magic Kingdom has a theme like dreams and wishes and child-like innocent fun, it would be good to keep it alcohol-free. If it's just served in restaurants with meals, I don't think it would become a problem like having drunks roaming around the MK, but it just kills the theming in my opinion.

In bold - yes, that what I was saying and I don't think MK will have any problem.
