The Cost of Living

Our salaries better match our costs of living! Then I would not complain. In the old days, things were cheaper too.. imagine how our grandparents had to adjust to higher costs of living too. The problem is that oil is not a renewable resource, and we are dealing with the limitations now. We are likely in a recession now or facing it, and that complicates things further.

I understand that there is a good size Deaf community up in your neck of the woods Liza. Is that so? One day I will visit.

I do ok on about $7000 a year, where I am staying.

Of course I:

Don't go out much
Don't own a car (and can't drive one anyway)
Don't have cable t.v. (let alone a t.v. itself)
Don't have a lot of appliances
Don't eat a lot of snacks or fast food
Don't have a big house (or a house at all, I own a trailer)

I think my biggest 'luxury', is the internet. Hehehe. :D

Dunno, really, I dont have a solid point of reference for your inquiry since I moved here last Nov.. probably more peeps in the Orlando area. I will find out this friday when I go to DPHH there with a pal.

One day I will leave beautiful Miami (the super high cost of living down here is beyond words!), and reside elsewhere. Where? I haven't a clue...but I am single and very willing to leave the expensive sunshine behind. Thank you for your input. :)

That happened to me. When the rent went up on our townhouse, we looked around--wooo, rents all around Kendall went up too! With a baby on the way, we decided to move out of Miami three years earlier than planned.... That was in 2005. I've been out here near Sarasota and have not gone back to work. I stay home with our two kids. If we stayed in Miami, We'd have to work like crazy to pay for everything.......:aw:

I love Miami---but kinda glad to be out of the congestion.....bad on the gas. It's good as long as I get to take the kids and head into Miami now and then.:D

It seems that the whole wide world want to live down here...at least the rich few. Boy is it eXpensive to live in Miami. I want out now! Sadly I am stuck down here for the near future...no escape for me (not yet).

I would think that Sarasota is also high cost living. Is that so Island? I have family near Ft. Myers (Arcadia and Port Charlette areas), and they have inexpensive lives...cheap, cheap, cheap cost of living up there in central Florida.

Yeah I'll head out to Alligator Alley (HWY 27) and set up shop in the middle of the big swamp. Don't worry, I won't forget the mosquito repellent. A truck load of that sticky stuff will do just fine. :)

Yes, you are absolutely correct!! I live in North Port. Sarasota is 35-40 min. away. The county line is behind the house; separates Sarasota and Charlotte Counties. Yes, it's cheap up here. That's the reason I was willing to leave Miami. Took me a while to adjust to living out here. It's semi-rural. There were no day care providers for babies under age one back then. Not that I minded living in a rural area. I lived in Miami so long--13 years! I lucked out on a house here. No rent increases in the past three years. Gives us time to nail a bigger house at the right time and right price......:fingersx:

Or drive up Krome Ave. and make a left onto 41 West. One of the smallest post offices in the state is there. Very cool.

before we all complain about the cost of living, consider Monaco.

you have to pay $1 million just to APPLY to live there. and once you do, you'll bankrupt yourself just trying to make your first house payment.

AquaBlue, visit to suburb of Atlanta and you can find nice house for reasonable cost, also be relax when you are in south.

Yes and no. Little Rock was rated as one of the most expensive cities in America according to a friend of mine who is a top executive in real estate. Other cities in Arkansas (and towns) however rate pretty cheap - but the average income of families is very low. You should see what us teachers make - it is pitiful and embarrassing.

Last year I moved out west and was like, "whoo hoo!" I'm making thousands of more dollars...BUT...the cost of living was much more higher...so I was broke as usual. The new place I'm moving to, the cost of living is even higher than where I'm at now. I'm will be making even more money...but in the end, for me...the salary and cost of living cancels each other out.

aint that a bitch?

it does suck.

Aqua, you can looking in panhandle area of FL and it's alot cheaper than in Miami.
