Have anyone watched this movie yet?

I did tonight. :Ohno: It is a true story movie, of the family of DeFeo shooting, which turns into a bloodbath. The Ron Jr. claim that the voices told him to kill the entire family, and a new family moved in a year later, with the same issue, But Twenty-eight days later, they fled from the house. I don't think I'll be able to go to sleep tonight. :Ohno: This movie scare the shitless out of me. :eek2:

The DeFeo story is true. The house being haunted is not true.

If the house being haunted isn't true, Why did the new family that moved in a year later after the murders claim that there were voices in the house? I doubt they made that whole thing up. I mean why would they?

This link explains the hoax:

http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/family/amityville/6.html

"...In the end, this tale of horror and demonic possession was debunked by the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Center, the Amityville Police Department, William Weber (Butch DeFeo’s defense attorney), U.S. District Court Judge Jack Weinstein, and even George and Kathy Lutz, who ended up recanting certain parts of the tale. The new owners of 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville were disturbed by no other visitors than the hordes of curious onlookers, and those convinced that theirs was a haunted house. This entire fabrication detracted from what was in fact the true horror of Amityville, the cold-blooded murder of six innocent people by one of their own family members."

Here's a few things they found out about the Lutz family...
  • they returned and had a garage sale the next day
  • they never called the police during their 28 days at the house
  • the priest (supposedly harmed by the spirits) was found to be unharmed and in good health
  • the front door was supposedly ripped off of its hinges, but found to be in good condition and undamaged
There are a lot of things that didn't make sense in this story.

When they make movies "based on a true story", they're not saying that the movie is true... but the story behind it is true. In this movie, the DeFeo story is true... the haunting story is not.

Another example would be The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That movie was also "based on a true story". However, the only true part was the fact that there was a man, named Ed Gein from Wisconsin, who actually killed his victims for their skin to be used as various types of clothing for himself. This real history led to the made-up movies, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silence of the Lambs.

Ahh Yes, I just read it in this link http://www.prairieghosts.com/amityville.html

To be honest, I don't know what to believe because, I wasn't in that house either were you, So, I guess it's an unsolved mystery.

Who in the right mind would call the police about a house being haunted? They would be looking at you like you're insane. Think about it, And supposely a door was ripped off, Do you think ghosts might have put it back together? If you believe in ghosts. You think the priest would lie about the flies?

...In time, Ronald DeFeo’s attorney, William Weber, told how the Lutzes had come to him after leaving the house, and he had told them their “experiences” could be useful to him in preparing a book. “We created this horror story over many bottles of wine that George Lutz was drinking,” Weber told the Associated Press. “We were creating something the public wanted to hear about.” Weber later filed a two-million-dollar lawsuit against the couple, charging them with reneging on their book deal. The Cromartys also sued the Lutzes, Anson, and the publishers, maintaining that the fraudulent haunting claims had resulted in sightseers destroying any privacy they might have had. During the trials the Lutzes admitted that virtually everything in The Amityville Horror was pure fiction (Nickell 1995; Kaplan and Kaplan 1995).

Interesting, I didn't know that "The Amityville Horror" is a true story until today for a first time. I am surprised to see the people here claimed that it's false.

I watched The Amityville Horror I and II at long time ago. I did saw III but it's not good movie. It's interesting that they made a new movie part V.
