In washington state if you see a bad driver you can now get on your cell phone and squeal to the cops. I see the ACLU might get involved in this by saying its unconsititutional because it may involve freedom of privacy. See the government cannot spy on you just because youre a bad driver. I just saw this story on Fox News channel. Watch for the ACLU to challenge this soon.
Bad Driver program

I kinda support that program. Too many young people get killed on road because of bad driver. We need to improve our driving skill to make road much more safer. It is good reason but up aganist to the consitution is a good question.

BTW, I deleted my ingore on you because you are improving with your post and I really like it. Keep it up!

Umm... I get on my cell phone and call the cops. What's next? I get a ticket for driving and talking on a cell phone as well!? :fu2: I think this is bullshit!

I don't agree with it. I do agree that bad drivers are a problem, but don't think this is the right solution.

First, your idea of a bad driver might be different than my idea of a bad driver. When it comes to laws (such as speeding, etc) things are pretty clear cut. If your doing 60 in a 55, you are breaking the law. When it comes to just being a bad driver, it will be tougher (if not impossible to enforce).

Besides, somebody told me a long time ago, it isn't a crime to be an asshole. I've had people tick me off, but there isn't a lot I can do if they aren't breaking the law.

This reporting of bad drivers is going to be a thorn in the police and public side. While dangerous drivers should be reported, bad driving isn't against the law. Your going to cops out looking for people who have committed no crime. And how do you know it isn't about bad driving. Lets say male and female are sitting at a traffic light together. Male smiles at female driver next to him, she flips him the bird. He doesn't care for this so he calls the police to report her as a bad driver and that she is driving recklessly. I see this now in regards to drunk driving. Car A cuts off Car B (yes its rude) so driver of Car B calls the police to say that Car is is driving drunk.

I admire the efforts of getting bad drivers off the road until they are educated enough to drive properly, however, this isn't the way to do it.

What about old people driving too damn slow on the road? Should that be enforced taylor?
Yes, that should be enforced! I've nearly run into old farts because they're driving 30 mph to 35 mph on the highway whose speed limit is 55 mph to 60 mph! Grr!

Yes....it should be enforced. In fact, I wouldn't have a problem with every driver having to be tested every couple of years..and more frequent for the young and old. I know its a PITA, but I see both teenagers and elderly who should not be behind the wheel. Isn't illegal for them to do so but can be cause for concern. To clarify my original post, it isn't illegal to be an a-hole, nor is it illegal to be stupid or ignorant. I'm not saying the elderly are stupid or ignorant but there comes a time when you have to question if you really should be behind the wheel.

The thing with elderly is they have lost a lot of their freedoms with age. They can't do the things they used to do. Many do not want to give up their license as its one of the last 'freedoms' they have and won't give it up willingly. Many elderly do realize and understand that it becomes a safety risk. There is an elderly woman I visit in NJ frequently and she stopped driving years ago. Her and her sister are neighbors and the sister can drive very well. She stopped driving but still has mobility with her sister. Some elderly do not have the option of having somebody drive them. It works great for them as they go to the store together...get their hair and nails done together, etc. That doesn't work for everyone and I can completely understand why the elderly would like to continue to drive.

You wouldn't want somebody telling you that you can't drive because you are deaf....they don't want people telling them they can't drive because they are old. The problem here is that the latter is a safety issue.

If i was a US senator id introduce a law that would require if youre 65 you must give up your licence to drive. I would also raise the driving age from 16 to 19. I have a friend whos 72 she said she wouldnt vote for me cause ill take away her drivers licence. And she said how in the hell were supposed to get around then? I said take a bus or a cab. Besides Cities should add something like senoir ride. Just call up senoir ride at an hour their be at your home pick you up fare is $3 one way. Or buy a monthly pass for only $60 The more you ride the more you save. That would add jobs cause you need bus drivers. Well teens need to get somewhere too. Thats why they got parents. So parents drive them someplace .

Steve,
I wouldn't go as far as making it illegal. There are plenty of elderly driving that are doing just fine and put us Young 'Uns to shame :) I wouldn't take it away unless it were proven to be an issue, and this is why I think there should be testing. If you can't competently operate a motor vehicle, then you shouldn't be behind the wheel. This can be somebody who is 16, 25, 35 or 65. When I was 16, I had to pass a test to prove that I can drive a car....Why should I have to prove it only once.

Everything else in my life that I'm 'certified' to do requires re-testing...from me shooting a gun to being able to run license plates through our state system. I have to be recertified every 2 years just to run a tag to see if the car is stolen.

Don't take the license away if they are proven to be competent at driving. Not all elderly people ride in the left lane with their turn signal on doing 35. Not all of them mistake the gas pedal for the brake and drive through a storefront (seems to happen a lot where I live LOL).

You know what teens do,, They drag race on the roads. They steal cars. If kids were never taught to drive and they attempt to steal a car you guys can catch em easy.

:ugh: stereotyping qq not ALL teens are like that, not ALL elderly are bad drivers -- there are bad drivers around OUR age too!

I disagree with you because my Grandma is 65 yrs old and is a very good driver and I don't see why you say they have to require give up driving. It depends on each person, Not all of them are consider bad drivers.

Do you think your parents are gonna keep driving their kids around after they graduate from high school? High school is a time of learning and that's when kids should be able to begin driving and learn to take responsibility for themselves with their own jobs. The driving age should be left at 16... period.

i disagree with you.. i like the idea of having them have eye test, health checkup annually (for alzehimers (sp?), mobility, etc) every year..

cuz my mom is 66 yrs old.. and she drives very well.. she drives like a teenager sometimes.. my god.. she is so EMBARRASSING.. one time a cousin of mine was driving behind this car for miles on a backroad.. and this car was driving so slow.. finally she had a chance to pass that car.. guess who was in the car.. MY MOM!! LOL.. AND WHATS MORE.. my mom was giving her the "FINGER!" before realizing it was my cousin!! SHEESH!!!!

i had an indian guy who was in his 30's who mistook the gas pedal for the brake.. who ramped right into the office of my apt that was on the ground level in the spring of 2000! so like taylor said.. it doesnt matter how old they are.. it is the competency of driving!! if my mom heard you say what you said RAVENSTEVE... she definitely will give YOU.. THE FINGER!! LMDAO!!!

i think the driving age of 18 is a good age.. cuz they older and more responsible than the 16 yr olds.. just my opinion..

your gramma is 65!!?? :jaw: my mom is 66.. my gramma who died last jan was 90..

Interesting differing of opinions here.

I reckon in all countries there should be a law allowing people 18 years and over to get their driving license ensuring that they have passed a test or two first before driving.

Crikey, Cheri and Zesty, your grandma and mother's not much older than my momma. Ohh, looks like we have to put up with crotchey ladies in their 60's for now...:Ohno: Just kidding!
